iOS 11 is causing massive battery drain problems
https://betanews.com/2017/09/25/ios-11-battery-drain/
"A study conducted by security research firm Wandera shows that iOS 11 is causing iPhone and iPad batteries to drain faster than ever -- much faster. The difference between iOS 10 and iOS 11 is anything but minor; batteries can drain in half the amount of time following the upgrade.
Wandera's report shows how, on average, an iPhone or iPad running iOS 10 takes 240 minutes of usage to drain the battery from 100 percent to zero. With iOS 11 installed, this number plummets to just 96 minutes -- over twice as fast."

iPhone 5s is chugging along just fine and its much faster on 11.0.1 then it was on 10.2.1. Just added a 2017 iPad to the collection and I got that running 11.0.1 perfectly as well. I noticed most people complaining about lag and battery issues is on the latest phones. Funny.

Nice work Apple, You control everything in your phone/tablets software/hardware and yet you still cannot get it right, Android has a gazilion devices all with different hardware, Even so a Majority of update are problem free.

After the update from 10.3 to 11.0, battery was taking a hit. Killed it within a 10 min subway surfer gaming, from 50% to 0%. After charging it to 100% its performing normally like 10.3
-
It takes a few recharges to settle down .IOS 11 early betas had far worse battery life.

My iPad 5 took a major battery hit when I first installed iOS 11. The latest update seems to have helped a bit.

In all fairness, haven't some new Android versions, like Nougat, also caused some users to experience severely increased battery drain?

I hope I didn't make it sound like a Android vs Apple thing, because it wasn't, it was purely an Apple comment.
Although there have been complaints about Apple every release, it's usually fixed in the first few weeks or months, it's just that with Apple it's a single company so it's easy to notice and point out. After so many releases you'd think that would be on the top 5 list of things to get right out the door.
For Android it's a combination of OS / app related battery sucking + hardware or fixed / locked OS images with apps causing the problem. I've seen some Android releases with make's without problems and in the same release some makes have had problems with battery life.Starlight5 and Vasudev like this. -
Since Apple makes iphones only, the software and hadware collaboration needs to be perfect like they say, otherwise its simply overpriced android w/ a free fruit logo.Last edited: Oct 5, 2017

I seem to get the same battery life on 11.0 as for 10.x.

A promising improvement in iOS 11 battery life
https://www.wandera.com/blog/ios-11-battery-life-improved/
"Recently we ran an analysis to compare the battery decay rate of iOS 11 vs iOS 10. The results showed a significant difference. Now that Apple has pushed out improvements with 11.0.1 and iOS 11.0.2 and devices have had time to settle, this new analysis suggests improvements in iOS 11 battery life are on the horizon."

Our 2 6s on 11.2 are great on battery life...Much better than any android phone we ever used, and better than our 6s on 10.

Did you notice a bug where standby and usage time are blank after battery drops to 50% and can only updated after full charged battery. Its on iOS 11.0.1 and 11.0.2.hmscott likes this.

I'm going to try doing a full battery drain + refill on my SE, see if that changes anything. Kinda disappointed Apple hasn't updated the SE, hoping they will do so maybe in 2018. Not a fan of phones bigger than 4"

I think decreased battery life was due to enhanced logging of battery stats on any phones. So, do a soft reset to disable that. On iphone 7, you need to hold both Power & Volume Down keys to soft reset it and voila the issue is solved by 60-70%. I hope somebody notifies Apple about it so that you don't need to soft reset it every time.

I just used Wondershare iOS optimiser and was able to free some 300-500MBs of junk to speed it up.

Users continue to experience sluggishness, battery life problems in iOS 11 after multiple updates
Wednesday, October 25, 2017, 08:19 am PT (11:19 am ET)
"Problems with battery life and instability proliferate on social media and Apple support forums after the launch of iOS 11, but have persisted through three sub-point updates, don't seem to have a common cause, or are easily rectifiable."
http://appleinsider.com/articles/17...ife-problems-in-ios-11-after-multiple-updates
"As with just about every iOS update, Apple's first release of a major operating system appears to have induced some problems, where there were previously none. Accounts abound of general sluggishness, crashing, and battery life problems.
However, looking closer at the reports and phone generations impacted, there does not appear to be a common model afflicted by problems induced by the new operating system. Users across nearly all generations of iPhones, including the iPhone 7 family from 2016 are reporting issues stemming from the update. The iPhone 8 is seemingly not impacted by issues in iOS 11.
The sub-point updates fixed some user's complaints —but not many. Those updates were likely issued to address critical security problems.
One AppleInsider staffer experienced rapid battery drain on an iPhone SE. Initial testing with the beta of iOS 11.1 shows greatly improved battery life with that unit —but another iPhone SE in the same household purchased at about the same time never experienced any issues, and is still on iOS 11.0.3.
In the same location, a pair of iPad Airs, a pair of iPhone 7 Plus, and an iPhone 6s are seeing no problems with iOS 11.
Another editor is presently seeing a profound impact on battery life on a first-generation iPad Pro, and having problematic notification hand-off between an iPhone SE and Apple Watch as a result of the update. Additionally, on both devices, the AppleInsider editor is seeing general performance problems induced by the operating system.
Working with the same data set that continues to be collated from Genius Bars since 2016's "Touch disease" evaluation, there appears to have been a slight uptick in incidents involving iPhones, but not iPads, after the release of iOS 11, as opposed to the months before. However, the prevalence is about the same as in the shift from iOS 9 to iOS 10 —and the number of hardware repairs were deemed necessary as in previous years before and after an OS upgrade is essentially static.
This suggests that something in iOS 11 is to blame, and will likely be rectified in future updates to iOS.
It is important to note that while there are seemingly a large number of issues, Apple's iOS user base is larger than it ever has been before, and people that aren't having problems also aren't typically vocal about it.
Given the lack of hardware replacement sagas as a result of the update, and the lack of a notable increase in Genius Bar traffic year-over-year, this year's cycle appears no different than in any previous year. In the meantime, AppleInsider is working on a troubleshooting guide to ease or solve issues associated with iOS 11."Vasudev likes this. -
iOS 11 has been a massive disappointment on my iphone SE, kinda silly that only 2 software iterations and it is already lagging around on the UI and sapping battery life. I'm on iOS 11.1 and I've notice no real improvements. With the omission of the headphone jack and now poorly coded OS, I think I will be shopping android phones for my next phone. I used to pay the premium for Apple phones, because I expected a premium product, and this iOS 11 has been less than premium so far.
PS and this is after disabling Siri, background app refresh, widgets, etc.... -
Preliminary battery analysis for me offered great battery life, I think it'll need further testing and will report back or hard reset it fix the battery life. BTW, calculator app is still buggy 1+2+3=24. Maybe I need to attend 2nd grade school. I uninstalled the calculator app.hmscott likes this.

iOS 11.1 has been released with a fix for the KRACK exploit and apparently much improved battery life.

Yeees... "I’m seeing this consistently across social media and in message boards but, as encouraging as this is, unfortunately iOS 11.1 is far from a 100% success. Notably on Twitter @AppleSupport is still being hit with battery life complaints and those who haven’t been helped are angrier than ever."Vasudev likes this.

In fact I saw decent battery life after updating to iOS11.1.
Those who have upgraded from 9.x->10.x->11.0.x-> 11.x will clearly need an hard reset for optimal battery performance.
