    Folks:

I'm thinking about the R200. I played w/ it a bit in the store, and had some questions. Thanks for any help.

    1) The screen looks really dim. I turned the brightness to max, but compared to the fujitsu and sony it was washed out. I realize both of the others have xbrite, and am wondering what you think of the toshiba after using it for a while.

    2) Some folks have reported lots of keyboard flex. Anyone have any comments on this?

    3) What's the apparent longevity of the mouse buttons?

Thanks for any help. I didn't like the sony 360p; the 10.6" screen was too small, as was the keyboard. My only other real alternative seems to be the dell X1 (but it has a reduced keyboard too) or the ibm x41 (which seems perfect, if a bit heavier).

Any other models you think I should look at would be appreciated as well.

I haven't used the R200 extensively, but I'll weigh in.

    1) The screen is dim, I think it's one of the worst Toshiba has ever put out.
    2) Yes, there is extensive flex on the left side. I played with a special edition notebook and started mashing on it, I think the flex is terrible. Toshiba's PR people said they're working on it.
    3) That I can't answer, but failing mouse buttons don't occur very often.

I think you're on the right road with the X41, maybe even teh Fujitsu S series.

I've received my r200 like 1-2 months ago and used it ever since. I think it's great in every way and have nothing to say bad about it. The keyboard flex is unnoticeble and it doesn't bother at all. I mean if u push they keys at you should at a notebook there is no keyboard flex, if you push like on a normal desktop keyboard (kick it like mad) yes there is some keyboard flex but that doesn't do any problem (like having your finger stuck between keys or something). Something bad about it is at the touchpad that the material it is made of gets dirty fast because your fingerprints stick on it but it's easy cleanable with any cloth or something. The screen brightness is great for me (my eyes don't hurt or something), but i don't have any lamps very near it so i don't know how it will be at your desk. The touchpad is realy easy to use and i never heard of any notebook to have mouse buttons not working or something.
