I had posted this question at the bottom of another tread but I thought I would get a few more responses buy startin a new thread. Here is my post:

This is probably a dumb question but is there a big difference between this driver version and the stock version? Is there an increase in performance? If so, would you say its about a 5% boost or something like a 50% boost. Also, does the HD DVD player still work? I remember some people having that issue when changing drivers. Sorry about all the question, im just a novice and I dont want to screw up my X205.

I had got one response from Format13 and he said that it made an improvement and that it would not effect my HD-DVD player. By the way I have a X205-s9359. Thanks for any responses.

I installed this yesterday (X205-Sl1) and the HD DVD did not work (reverted back). You need to edit the toshiba file with the 169 file, there is a how to on this site. Still not sure if it's worth the hassle, but the SLI reboots might make me switch over to the 169.09.

I've been reading page after page about this, but my problem is: can't find the darn toshiba NVCO.inf file, either on my laptop or on the toshiba downloads page.

Hopefully some users will post there results. Seems that a majority of owners are opting for the 169.09 over toshiba's.

Well, I use the 169.09 and got around 200pt increase in the 3DMark score so 50%, never happen, what the new driver will do is help your machine run better with the newer games. In fact most of the newer drivers were released to improve game performance for certain new games, or fix Vista problems, and some for SLi performance issues. The 169.09 release notes stated it was to improve Crysis performance issues. So no your fps won't double, but the games will run much better. Also go http://www.nzone.com/page/home.html and install the hotfixes for vista listed on the page. Never had the HD-DVD problem.

Snowsurfer, how did you go about installing the 169.09 without it effecting your HD-DVD player? Is there a toshiba file that you have to edit like ozzy said? This is probably another dumb question but what are hotfixes and what do they do?

When you install your new driver, make sure to use the "Have Disk" method shown here http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=11997 I think people not using this to install the new driver are having problems. First remember to uninstall your factory driver using the device manager (same as the first steps in the "have disk" instructions just select uninstall. Then reboot your computer. Now start the install using the "have disk"method. A Hotfix is a file you can use that fixes a problem that was found such as a Vista flaw. Click on the Nzone link and it will explain it much better. I did have a problem where the DVD drive disappeared once in a while I fixed it using this http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/929461/en-us you should do this also. Alright get to WORK  !

    Did it work for ya?

I installed 169.09 but the HD player did not work. Did the NVCO file tweak and now the HD player is working.

edit the toshiba and 169 file, so you can use the Toshiba HD player. If not, you'll get an error message with the HD player.

I never did try to install this driver due to the fact that i guess I am to dumb to figure out how to install it and keep my hddvd player working. But tonight i bought Gears of War and it will not play. It says i need to install driver 163.44.

    Delete the nv_disp.inf file
    Rename the nvco.inf to nv_disp.inf
Change the lines in the "new" nv_disp.inf as instructed above to match the version, date, and cat name
    Install

What does this crap mean? Where is this nvco.inf (some treads they call it nvco.cat) file located. I have searched but have not found. Could some one please give me an Idiot proof step by step process. I have downloaded the 164.33 driver along with the inf file but I dont want to install it if it kills my hddvd player. Pease help. Anyone. Please.

    the nvco.inf / .cat
is located in the stock drivers provided by Toshiba.
Goto the Toshiba supports and downloads on the site and download them.
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_drivers_bios.jsp
    select the laptop e.g.
    notebook
    satellite
    satellite x series
satellite x200 (european equivalent to rest of world x205 but drivers are the same)
leave rest blank (or select display for driver type)
    and you should get
    '13/11/07 Display Driver
nVidia Windows Vista 32 Bit "7.15.11.5664" World Wide '
    http://support1.toshiba-tro.de/tedd-files2/0/display-20071113125604.zip

the above .zip is the link that appears.
extract the folder and the nvco file will be in there

Ok. Let me know if this is correct.
    1. Extract the "Toshiba" driver 7.15.11.5664 that I downloaded from Toshiba's web site.
    2. Find the file called "nvco" and rename it to nv_disp.inf
    3. Copy that one into the "New Driver folder" and replace the one that is in there.
    4. Next, open up the nv_disp.inf file and revise the "version, date, and cat name" to match the nv_disp.inf that i downloaded from laptopviedo2go.
    5. Install per laptopvideo2go's website.

    Is this correct?

Yes thats exactly how i did and it worked fine for me. Oh and it is a good idea to uninstall your old driver and then start in safe mode and run driver sweeper to make sure you get everything before you install the new drivers

i just went to extract the 7.15.11.5664 to get the nvco file. But after it extracts it, it automatically installs it. I thought it would just extract it to a folder and i would be able to get it there. But it acts like it extracts it to a temp folder and then it runs the install. How can I get this file? I did a search for "nvco" and it comes up with nothing.

Do you already have the toshiba driver installed on your computer? if you do you can go to the directory where the driver is installed to find the nvco file. thats how i remember getting it for my computer. im at work right now so i cant verify the location of this file but i will check later today when i get home. let me know which driver you currently have installed so i can help you out... also, when it extracts the files to the temp directory does it automatically start the install after that or do you have to click something to continue the install? if you have to click to start the install after the extract then you can simply not click to start the install and go to the temp directory to copy the file.

I had the 7.15.11.5664 driver from Toshibia but I went ahead and installed the 169.09 lastnight to see if I could get Gear of War to work. It works but now my hddvd is not going to work. If you could give me a path to where your nvco file is then I will roll back to the Toshiba driver and do it the correct way. Oh, when I installed the Toshiba drive to get the nvco file the only option it gave me was to extract the files. When i said yes it exctracted them automatically and installed them. I did a search for nvco and it came back with "nothing found". So if you can find where it is on your computer and let me know I would really appreciate it. Thanks. P.S. Are you going with the SPDIF adapter or the cable?

5.1 seems to be working great... i was curious though as i could never get sound when i set the TOSHIBA HDDVD settings to S/PDIF output. it only worked with the 5.1 or stereo surround sound compatible. I was wondering if that means i am not really getting the true digital signal. also was wondering which port your optical is plugged into. i thought that the S/PDIF was through the headphones jack but i cant seem to get a digital signal through that jack rather i get it through the port directly next to the headphones port. My receiver shows optical dolby pro logic II signal was wondering if that is the correct signal for 5.1 or if maybe my stereo doesnt have "digital" 5.1 decoding.
