    Hello guys !
I had problems with Toshiba M40. There was nothing I could do to fix them so I had with my wireless adapter - Intel pro 2915ag. Wireless adapter was doing something to the whole computer within few second after turning it on. Computer was feezing and HD was doing something. I had to change the laptop. So now, I have the second M40 - luckily I have extended warranty from Future Shop ($400CDN plus tax). Now, It connected to wireless network after few minutes. Laptop seem to be working fine except for the annoying high pitch sound coming from left speaker or left speaker area but so far is not as bad as the first M40 I had. Screen on the second M40 seems to be different then the first M40 I had. The second one seem to be more "grainy". Weird. I wonder if anybody noticed that the screens of the M40 model can be different on different units. Is that possible? Looks like I should compare the screens before exchanging the laptops. Isn't that strange? Awaiting your opinion, especially who exchanged the M40. Any idea how to fix the high pitch sound? It seems to be dependant on CPU workload - changes on the screen affect the high pitch sound. I had Compaq 3320CA for a few months before M40 but flickering screen within first two weeks after buying, scared me off and finally I retunrd it and got Tosiba M40. So far I am not that impressed with it. I may return this second M40 (14 days left) and get the another Compaq AMD64 as it was exccelent multitasker, very, very quiet and loong battery life. I could watch two DVD movies on one charge - pretty good. I think that even the screen was better, slightly less vivid then M40 but less "grainy" than M40 (I think)
    Has anybody noticed similiar problems?

    Awaiting your replies.

Seems like you may ran into another bad laptop. Mine screen is crystal clear, and I have no whining noise.

I'd give it another chance becaues of the superior 3D performance :D

Going for the lastest and greatest models in the market is almost guaranteed to cause problems. Just like any Windows OS, they'll have major bugs for a while and after a couple production runs, it'll get better.

Regarding the squealing noise, try changing your power management setting to Notebook/Laptop and see if the sound goes away. Also, you can try plugging in a USB device (mouse, keyboard, USB memory key) that actually draws power from the port. This may also help. Other users including myself has reported similar issues for this type of noise on Toshibas and other brands. It may be localized to Pentium M based notebooks.

The issue with the LCD, just make sure the resolution is set to the maximum and the font size is set to 96dpi. This will usually give you the sharpest image quality. Setting the font size larger will cause your fonts to be grainy. Same goes for lowering your desktop resolution below the "native" resolution (usually the highest available for notebooks). Dropping the resolution lower will cause the fonts to stretch to fit the screen.

Thanks for help. How can I change the screen resolution without causing my desktop to go beyond the screen frame? I have changed the resolution but than I have to scroll up and down, left and right to "find" rest of the screen. Is there a setting on M40 to force the desktop to fit the size of the LCD screen?
