    5 keys on my laptop dont work

    hi
    after i got back my toshiba a205-s4587 laptop from toshiba after they changem my motherboard... now i found that 5 keys on the keyboard dont work (i checked them on live cd of linux too): home, pgup, pgdn, end, \

    is there a way i can fix them myself?
    it will take a long time till i will be able to go to toshiba again....

    Could be a bad keyboard, plug in an external keyboard and see if it works. You can change the keyboard yourself.

    They may have plugged in the keyboard ribbon connector incorrectly that would cause this, it's easy to check but you would need to remove the long and this plastic strip on the top side of the keyboard by prying on it very gently!!!, and then remove 4 phillips head screws to get to this connector. Good Luck.

    Yes that is the strip I was talking about.You have to pryon it upwards very gently, it is held in place by clips on the plastic strip and if you pry on it gentlyotshould snap off slowly.

    Hold your horses! check first if the laptop is still under warranty before doing anything else. Because if it is, send it to the service center authorized by Toshiba. If something went wrong and incase you have to send it in, the service center will check it for any physical attempt to open or repair it on your own which will void the warranty. If its not under warranty then go ahead and do it. ciao!

    i tried it but it seams it wont come of with out the black part that is upper then it (where the media and on/off keys are)
