Are there any big issues associated with a clean install on this laptop? I think my problems are stemming from too much adaware or something along those lines so I'll need to do a clean install.

Any suggestions on how to keep adaware from comming back? I've been using Firefox and I'm still getting them. Strange thing it seems that I still get IE related stuff while running firefox!

On the adware... About the only thing you can do is to SCAN anything you download, plus run a firewall like Sysgate Personal Firewall Pro, Run a browser like Firefox, not I.E. Set your security settings to high, scan with the various anti-adware programs like Sypbot, Lava Soft adware... using them all, plus differant virus scan programs.... and don' don't click on every link that pops up, be selective in which programs you run, scanning anything with several anti-aware, anti-virus, anti-trojan programs before, after a install, and then on a regular basis after that.

On the Sysgate firewall, it's nice because it BLOCKS programs that try to dial OUT. (unlike the XP firewall) and other firewall programs. The Norton Client Firewall I'm running on one PC, unless I've missed a confirguration settting does not alert you to outgoing attempts, show a log that can be accessed easily, nor showing the incomming and outgoing packets like Sysgate does. I'm sure someone will set me straight on that... I admit that Norton is probally fine... I just don't like the live update feature and all the **** Norton installs on a PC.

(Another plus to Sysgate is it's faster when you do want to pull up the addtional info, look at the log, change settings, etc...)

BTW: Have you checked the mfg's site for tips on a fresh install? I just ordered a HP dv8000t and HP has some install tips on their site.

Thanks for the feedback. I haven't tried to check if install info. is provided by the site. I'll give that a look.
