Unfortunately I am not CURRENTLY running Win7 64 so I am still stuck at the ~3gb ceiling, but this cinches it, as soon as my upgrade arrives from Newegg I'm going x64!

FYI: The Portege M700 uses the Intel gm965 chipset so I imagine that any other Toshiba using this configuration would not be limited to the 4gb as described by Toshiba documentation, but could in fact be bumped up to the full 6gb.

Is your name Jason? As it says in the Windows 7 picture? Because I thought you just had a screenshot of my laptop there.

    Why not go for 8gb?
It should work just as well.

But thanks for doing the test, I have a toshiba tecra a9 with the GM965 chipset and I was wondering if it would work in myne.

In another forum I was directed to a link that suggested the same thing and I think I will experiment to see if it works in the coming months when i upgrade my wife's laptop. Judging by what I read it should, since Toshiba didn't add anything to the BIOS that locked the system down at 4gb as is suggested by their product description.
