Hello,
I have a Toshiba 205-S7483 laptop and it won't start up. It gives me 3 beeps from the bios. 1long beep and 2 short beeps. I Looked it up at
http://www.bioscentral.com/beepcodes/awa
and it tells me that its a video card problem. Now i visit the manufacturing web site
http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/
and look at the specs of the graphics card and it tells me that i have a NVIDIA GeForce 8700M GT with GDDR2.
But wait?? I thought all the 8700M GT cards came with GDDR3??
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GeForce_8_S
this link as well as the nvidia site says its GDDR3...
so now when it comes to buying a graphics card, i have a few questions.
- Would the 8700M GT GDDR3 fit in my Toshiba 205-S7483
- Whats the deal with MXM? would my 205-S7483 fit a GDDR3 with MXMIII
http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeFo
-Where do i buy a 8700M GT card from ??
-
Your laptop is not mxm, the only replacement gpu can come from toshiba and it is gddr3 they have the specs wrong on the website.
-
8700M GT DDR2 and 8700M GT GDDR3 should have exactly the same profile, they are just different memory types.
MXM is a connector format used on a lot of laptops these days. There are different types of connectors within that.
You can try looking for an 8700M GT on Ebay, but try and make sure whether it is compatible with your laptop model. -
How do you know that? You might assume that my laptop is not MXM, yet I have seen several reviews where it claims that my laptop has MXM II.
OP - You may need to take it apart to check. Also, another way to purchase is from the Toshiba website, but be warned; they will probably have some pretty insane prices. -
I moved this thread to the Toshiba section XxDizzyxX as it’s a Toshiba hardware issue

X200 "vga boards" are not MXM. Pretty obvious when you look at them.
-
Toshiba has proprietary video boards in these laptops.
ALL 8700mGTs ship with GDDR3 unless someone tried something out of spec. (NVIDIA doesn't even spec them for DDR2)
Toshiba used GDDR3... so ignore the typo.
The video board on those was indeed separate, but it definitely isn't MXMII.
Toshiba will be the only one with such a board, and they weren't exactly selling them separately.
Honestly, it might be easier to look for a Toshiba repair shop around you and bring it in for out-of-warranty repair.
The other way would be to find someone with a dead x205 or similar (failure other than video card) and have them send it to you so you can try a swap.
A reminder... you can get a new laptop that will outpace that machine for $500-600 now. -
so if i was to buy this item from e-bay
E-bay link
would that be alright?Last edited by a moderator: Feb 2, 2015 -
Because I are psychic that and his laptops old enough that I've seen what the insides look like.
no your laptop is not MXM compatible. Please open your laptop up and look for yourself so you know what you should be looking for.Last edited by a moderator: Feb 2, 2015 -
alright, so how do i fix it? lol
-
Order the replacement part from Toshiba. You will need to almost completely pull apart the notebook. When you find the part that looks exactly like the replacement, take the old one out, and slot in the new one.

I'm being way to nice....good go whats that beating in my chest, never happened before.
This is what you need.
