I was wondering if there is a big difference in the two considering gameplay. Not that its going to change my mind about not getting an 9800 anyway because im already getting a x305-Q705.

i would say no more than 10 extra fps, depending on the game.

How are you getting it for free?

And the 9800GTS somehow smokes the 9700M GTS. The 9800GT and GTX are about the same compared to each other, and not really worth the huge price tag, especially the GTX.

I noticed that the system requirements for most games shows the supported chips but does not show the 9700. does this mean the 705 wont play these games if it doesnt show a 9700? sorry if i sound dumb but im trying to be sure

nope, it will play it. some games say geforce 6600 or higher supported card. it usually shows either the bare minimum or the recommended. The x305 can play every single game, and can play most games at high settings or maxed out.

Actually the 9700M GTS and the 9800M GTS are much closer together than the 9800M GTS and the 9800M GTX. You can easily overclock the 9700M GTS to get the same performance as a stock 9800M GTS and even 9800M GT but then if you overclock those cards it is a different story !!!!

    9700M GTS = 48 shader

    9800M GTS = 64 shaders

    9800M GT = 96 shaders

    9800M GTX = 112 shaders

Hope this helps. God Bless :)

o ok sweet so this thing can play every single game. the only thing i dont like about the x305 is the CPU speed. sure its a laptop but the peice of crap desktop i have now (by piece of crap i mean 64 MB Video card and 387 MB of ram. it sucks!) has a CPU speed of 2.66 GHz. is there a way to OC it?

Well, don't just look at CPU speed.

    sSpec Number:
    CPU Speed:2 GHz
    Bus Speed:1066 MHz
    Bus/Core Ratio:7.5
    L2 Cache Size:3 MB
    L2 Cache Speed:2 GHz
    Package Type:Micro-FCPGA
    Manufacturing Technology:45 nm
    Core Stepping:M0
    CPUID String:10676h
    Thermal Design Power (TDP):25W
    Thermal Specification:90°C
    VID Voltage Range:1.00V-1.250V

There are many more things that involve in performance, such as process (45nm), number of transistors, instruction set, etc. i bet that the 2.0ghz p7350 will smoke your 2.66ghz.

2.0 core 2 duo which is like a 4.0 processor (thats the way i think of it :)), + its alot better since its newer, centrino 2, and has alot of other new technology, as dude said above with the 45nm etc. it also uses less power, and doesnt give off as much heat.

this thing blows away my 3.0 p4 processor

Please show me the benchmark where an overclocked 9700GTS that scores over 9k in 3dMark06.

JDELUNA have you tried Dox's 178.24 custom drivers? Maybe with an overclock you can give Kevin his wish?

i think they were refering to that an overclocked 9700M GTS performs about the same as a stock 9800M GTS, without overclocking

Yeah I thought that too, and I think JDELUNA scored 8000 something on the F55? with a 9700m gts. Oh anyway Mick score was 8795 with these drivers (Dox's 178.24). 205 points shy.

On the X305 I just reviewed framerates in games were 15-20% lower than my 6831FX.

Considering the faster CPU and RAM I would say teh 9700m GTS is 25% slower than the 9800m GTS.

What's the point? You can OC a 9800m GTS too. You have to look at apples to apples comparisons otherwise what's the point?

This is a comparison chart that I found some time ago...

If you want to compare shader pipelines, compare the 9600GT(64) to the 8800GS/9600GSO(96) to the 8800GT/9800GT(112). There are a lot of reviews between them.

More shaders tends to mean more better dx10 performance, but most game devs are avoiding dx10 now (google for an interview of John Carmack on DX10).

    9800m GTS = 9600GT
    9800m GT = 8800GS/9600GSO
    9800m GTX = 8800GT/9800GT

what do you mean the 9800M GTS = 9600GT??

and from that chart that ive seen a few months ago, there isint alot of difference between the 9800M series, but the 9700MGTS is right behind it. itll make a little differece, but 3 to 10 fps isint that much.

i think if you wanna game on at least most settings high, nothing below the 9700M GTS is worth it. the 9700M GT isint powerful enough to game on high, but is okay on medium.

i had the choice between the gateway with the 9800M GS and the toshiba x300 with a 9700M GTS, the gpu power isint a big reason to get the gateway. i chose the toshiba because its more reliable and a couple extra fps isint worth it. i could have also got an asus with a 9700M GT, but this is where the big difference is.

    the toshiba with a 9700M GTS and only a 2.0GHz processor will get around 7,700 3d 06 score. the asus with a 9700M GT and a p9500 (2.53GHz) processor, only gets high 5,000 - low 6,000 score.

so all in all, any gaming laptop is worth it with a 9700M GTS and above. theres no big gaming difference, unless yor comparing a 9800M GTX to a 9700M GTS, where if you're picky enough, youll care about 10 extra fps.

The 9800 series leaves the 9700 series in the dirt for some reason. The gap between the 9700M GTS and the 9800M GTS is huge compared to a 9800GT to a 9800GTS and to a 9800GTX. The 9700M GTS also blows out the 9700M GT. So, something is really different about the 8 series. More transistors?

yeah I think the 98xx cards are a step up. To me every frame per second counts towards smoother animation which equal more immersion in the first person perspective virtual world. And lewdvig I think the point is to see if we can get the potential of the 98xx series from the 97m gts. Oh BTW nice review of the x305 but the vid of the keyboard flex seemed like a sucker punch, either than that it seemed fair observation of the notebook.

9800m GTS is the laptop GPU equivalent to the desktop's 9600GT.

Both has the G94 core, 64 shaders, 256 memory interface, and GDDR3...

Only difference is that the laptop equivalent is slightly down clocked (to produce less heat).

I think what they are trying to say is that people with the 9700M GTS do not have to be sad and try an upgrade immediately to the 9800 series, as they can do a mild overclock and get about the same ability as a 9800M GTS or GT. That basically their 9700M GTS has pretty good value for the $. Hope this helps. God Bless :)
