Hello - I took my Toshiba A105-S4211 into the shop under warranty to replace the DVD drive - it was making a loud physical vibration noise when the disc was spinning really fast. Unfortunately, after they replaced the drive, now it makes constant popping noises through the speakers and headphones, only when playing a CD. I tried to get my old drive back but it was too late - they had send it back to Toshiba. They tried another brand new drive but the same thing. Now the shop wants to replace the mother board. Before I go thru that, I called Toshiba support and they walked me thru uninstalling and re-installing the drive, but I still have the noises. I tried other CD players besides Windows Media Player, and it makes no difference. I tried setting Win Media Player for "error correction" - no diff.
The mother board has arrived at the shop, but before I take it in, I plan to call Toshiba again. In the meantime, has anyone had this issue before? It would be good if I could fix it by tweaking the software - I'm afraid replacing the MB might not do it.
Also, it plays just fine with the Express Media Player, so I don't think it's the drive.
The noises started right after they replaced the first drive. No noises before that, other than the occasionally little pop that I think is normal.
I know I have options since it's under warranty, including returing it to Toshiba if they conclude it's a hardware issue, but I thought I would check with you guys first, since I'm not all that confident Toshiba can fix it.
Thanks.

I would try first reinstalling the Media software and see if that does anything. I would also try importing the music to your computer and playing it from the HD.

I have the same issue with my machine when play movies or music it sounds like a faint popping and static like noise like if playing an old LP record. I didnt notice the sound issue at first since it isnt that noticeable only when you turn up the volume and it doesnt happen through the Express Media player (this is the media play that plays CDs or DVDs w/o booting up the OS, kind of like having a portable DVD player).
So I thought that it was an outdated audio driver, Realtek has a more updated driver on their website but that didnt work. I also noticed that there have been updates to the BIOS on the Toshiba support web site but not for my exact issue but for sound problems.
So after searching all over the web to see if other people have had this issue I called Toshiba Tech Support and they told me to take it in to an authorized deal to change out the motherboard. Havent done that yet since Im not ready to bring in my machine because Im using it for gaming and dont want to be without it. But just from the little research I have done it does seem that it could be a hardware problem because of the new processors the Core 2 Duo chips but Im not exactly sure. I know that Realtek had to update their driver to handle the 32/64 bit chip sets since the Core 2 Duos are not only two cores but also 64 bit processors, Core Duos are a two core processor but are only 32 bit processors.
With all that said I would imagine that this audio issue would just be a BIOS fix?
