    Hello all,

New here. Only my second post. But I hope to get some help from some of you.

This is a brand new S361. Besides from the high-pitched noise I am getting from the left-side (I have posted a reply on this issue on a different thread), I am getting this constant fan-like noise coming from the right-side. It could be at the middle of the laptop too, I can't tell. Is anyone else having this same issue? Is there a way to turn it off, or make it sporadic? It is on all the time, and when I'm in a quiet room (which I am most of the time) it is annoying.
    Please help.

Is the noise different from that of the cpu fan. If it is then it might be a symptom of some faulty capacitors or some such electrical device.

If it is the noise due to the spinning of the fan, then there is not much one can do about that. Fan noise is existant in most of the laptops sold. You can try using a cooling pad which might be quieter than the cpu fan. Also there are some utilities like Speedfan which can control the fan speed, but it might or might not work on your system. Try these measures or you can also try undervolting the cpu which will result in lower temperatures and thereby lead to the fan turning on less frequently.

    Hello,

Thank you for the reply. The noise is very distinct from the CPU fan noise. The noise is coming for the right-side/ center of the computer, whereas the CPU fan is on the left-side of the computer. It is quite distinct.
The noise I am hearing is almost like a fan noise. Or maybe this will help. The noise is like the sound you would hear when you standing by the calm lakeside. It's a constant hallow noise.
If that description doesn't help, then the fan-like noise is all I really can think of. It is not the fan noise, per se, as I know what the CPU fan sounds like. It's a hallow-fan-like noise.
Does anyone know what the problem is?
In the first system I had, I don't remember hearing this noise at all. Now I do. Wondering if it's the system, or some setting I need to adjust.
    Thanks.

Your notebook shouldn't be overheating if your using it on a desk/tabletop. I'd check underneath your notebook and see if any of the fans down below are jammed with dust/debris that might have gotten into them. I'd also try blowing out your notebook's cooling system with compressed air if you notice any dust.

    Hello,

    Thank you for the reply.

It's a brand new notebook. The noise started from day one. Again, I'm not sure if I noticed it on the first system I had (I exchanged the first system for this second system before of other problem I had). But this second one is noticable. So, I doubt that it's dust or any debri that is causing this fan-like noise to persist.
I don't know how to take apart a laptop (this is the first one I've ever own), so I'm a little hesitent to take it apart or blow any air in there. I honestly don't think it's dust. Perhaps it's a defect. I don't know. Thank you for the reply tho.
Does anyone else have any idea?

    Hmm...

Try seeing what the internal CPU temperature is by using benchmarking software such as MobileMeter.

If the sound is on your right side, could it be the dvd player? I know toshiba tools has a quite mode for the dvd drive that could be affecting you. Mine has a constant low fan noise, but not anything from the right side. I'd send it in for repairs if it really bothers you.

Yes, it is from the right-side. I wasn't sure if it's the right, or middle, but I do suspect it's the DVD player. I tried using the "silent mode" that silencer program has, but that doesn't work. I'm hesitent to send it to repair because it's a new system.
I'll see if anyone else has suggestions. If no more, then I'll consider sending it to repair. Sucks!!!
