I bought this laptop new 2 years ago. Here are the symptoms:
1. Laptop doesn't stay on more than 1+ minute going into Windows Vista or the bios.
2. In windows XP, laptop stays on maybe 5 minutes. I can boot all the way into XP and browse Windows Explorer for a minute of two before it turns off.
3. Once it powers off, all of the leds are dark. The led for having the power adapter plugged in flashes dimly about once a second 10-12 times. Then that led and the charging led comes on. It is at this point I can try to power the laptop again. Before this point, I can't turn the laptop on.
4. No leds are on with only the battery attached. LED's only light up with the power cord plugged in. The leds might only light up with both the battery and the power cord attached, I'll have to double check. Yes, the A/C led does come up with only the power cord plugged in after it flashes several times like noted above.
Question, shouldn't I be able to power this laptop WITHOUT the battery being connected? Because I can't, I can only get this thing to power up with both the battery and power cord connected.
Thanks!

Does anyone have any comments on this? At least whether or not I should be able to run this laptop with just the A/C cord with no battery attached.
I also hear this clicking sound coming from the laptop when the leds are out, when they come back on the clicking stops. I do however, hear a slight buzzing sound. -
Take the battery out and run it off AC. If it runs fine then your battery has probably shorted out. Same thing happened to me two years ago when I pulled a 1995 laptop out of my closet. It would just shut off every few minutes with the dead battery inserted.

Nope. Doesn't run just off the A/C.

New power supply didn't work. I guess it's something with the motherboard???

Clicking noise could be coming from the HDD.
A105-4211 just shuts off!
