    First post here!!

    wooohooo!!

So anyways picked up the Toshiba A105-S101 and of course I need to mod it... already ordered a pair of G.Skill 512mB So-DIMM's.
Now I think I'm going to do the old wire mod 725 to 770 mod. For those who don't know, that's when you take a 725 P-M processor and install it in a 533fsb compatible NB and trick the NB into running it at multi x 133 instead of multi x 100. The 725 is a 16 x 100fsb part=1.6gHz, but at 16 x 133, voila!! it's a 2.13gHz part. Now we all know that nearly ALL B1 Dothans are good til 2.3-2.4gHz on default volts in a NB, so that's like a free 770 upgrade for $100.

Now where can I find the CPU? Under the KB? Or accessed through the rear??

It should be accessable underneath the keyboard (that's usually the standard on all Toshiba models). However, I'm not too familiar with the new A-Series, so I can't give you a definite answer to your question. I've also never heard of that upgrade from a Dothan CPU to a Sonoma one. I would think you'd have to replace the MOBO to do that. I'd be happy to hear more about this!

    yeah, here's the deal:

Intel 915 and ATI 200M based units allow both 400 and 533fsb cpu's. There is one pin on the socket 479 pinout that signals the chipset what the default fsb is, it is BSEL. If you ground out BSEL, termed BSEL(0)... the chipset "thinks" there's a 533fsb CPU in the socket and runs it as such. Most 7X5 Dothans will run in a lappie at default volts and pretty normal heat output at 2.26v (same as P-M 780) but a safer mod is to use a 715 or a 725 which will run at 2.0gHz and 2.13gHz respectively. Let me find the source for the tech info and I'll post it!

Well, that version of the A-Series is brand spankin' new, so I don't think there'll be a guide for quite some time. Look at M40/L20 dismantling guides, as it's closest to those models (See the "How to Disassemble Toshibas" thread). I really don't know if Toshiba's changed their internal designs, but the CPUs are usually under the keyboard or underneatht the screen or at the bottom left hand corner.

    Charlie,

I just ordered the same MB so please share your progress. I am also intererested in reasearching cpu upgrades mostly for power savings. What CPU should I be looking for? There are plenty on eBay but I'm not sure what I should be looking for.

    TIA

Well if you're looking the ultimate amount of power consumption, you should take a look at P-M ULV CPUs. However, I don't think that they're compatable with regular P-M MOBOs. What are you going to be doing with your notebook?

The A105-series is still too new - you'll have to wait awhile before anyone's opened their's up. Opening up a notebook to replace its CPU automatically voids the warranty, which is why most people aren't tempted to fiddle with their notebooks.
