OK... a friend purchased an A135-S2356 and got Vista... what a piece of absolute garbage... Microsoft thinks that this is progress? anyway.
So, first thing that he wants done is to put in an XP CD and install the old XP (had to purchase it actually, funny how Vista came out and all the used copies of XP Pro double in price... you KNOW you have a winner on your hands then... OK, I must stop this ranting).
Anyway, oh my word... nothing detects and when we try to go to the ATI site and install the drivers from there it says incorrect chipset. What??? They were the right drivers, but won't install. Seems that Toshiba does something wonky to the hardware that prevents you from installing the standard drivers from their site.
So, since there are also other undetected devices, I'm not even entirely sure what they are. So, I am then looking through the box and find that, in addition to the Toshbia Vista DVD, with all their Vista drivers and such, one of those Vista upgrade DVDs was ALSO included, which seems to indicate that the model originally came with XP and that the new model number is a new Vista model number.
As a result, anyone know what the counterpart to the A135-S2356 with XP on it was, so I can just download the driver packages for it? Please advise so that I can get that thing running with XP drivers, this Vista GARBAGE is really pissing me off. Particularly since the Toshiba site doesn't even have XP drivers listed on their support site for that model.

I wish there was a solution to this, I'm stumped right now.
Anyone out there?
Found most everything, just not the sound, when I find everything I'll post it. -
ya... i tried that too.. and when i searched for drivers on toshiba , and other sites.. it didn't read at alll
it was very annoying.. i mean..this is so stupid.. they give u a laptop load with a bunch of crap with 512 MB and vista OS and hoping u will be satisifed......
I.. been search for drivers for a while.. but.. it doesn't work... i think its best to get a ram upgrade -
I've even looked on the website for similiar laptops with the same specs but with winXP installed, still no luck. However, I managed to find the following drivers.
Display Adapter: ATI Radeon Xpress 200M Series (Omega 3.8.330) Think you need to search "Omega Radeon" on the net.
WLAN: Atheros AR5006EG
LAN: Realtek RTL8139
Sound: Realtek (Have issues controlling volume using WinDVD and other apps)
It works, but there are 2 Unknown Device in my system properties. It might be the chipset. I hope someone can help. -
I just bought the same laptop today. I have everything working with XP except the volume control slider and the same 2 unknown devices. I found out they are ACPI controllers and dont have a clue yet where to get drivers. Some of the Vista drivers on the recovery cd work like for the Synaptic touchpad but I dont see anything for ACPI or hotkeys. Suprisingly the new ATI Catylist driver loaded as a Radeon X300 and works. I am going to do some research on the ACPI.
-
Anyone have any luck yet finding more drivers, particularly for those two unknown devices?
-
I found out that the two unknown device is actually "Direct Application Launch Button" (The four buttons on the left under the power button)
I found the drivers for it by googling "Toshiba A135-S2276 XP Drivers Full". Sorry, couldn't provide the direct link here because I think its not allowed.
The model is different, but it works.
However, I'm still unable to get some of the function keys working, like the Brightness.
Hope this helps -

PERFECT AUDIO FIX!!!!!!!!! A friend bought the Toshiba A135-S2356 last week. Vista bites, etc... but we put XP PRO on it and then started the Driver hunt.. She found them all EXCEPT THE AUDIO...
Today I installed all the windows updates and added SP2.. rebooted and the AUDIO works perfectly.. NO DRIVER HUNT NEEDED.
If you have not installed ALL updates and atleast SP1 (I advise SP2) do so and good luck!
The computer flys and SOUNDS great once its complete!!

What I did:
Video Driver - I installed the driver that toshiba said it is, by force. I mean, forcing windows to install the damn driver!
It is working fine Radeon X200M from ATI website.
Audio - Realtek HD codec from Realtek's website - Works fine.
Modem - Installed a drive someone posted in other forum - "Toshiba Software Modem" works fine.
The two others two dispositives are a mystery. -
Have them all courtesy of a kind internet guru. Give me an email address and will send.

Look in the "COMPS1" folder in the "Recovery and Applications/Drivers CD". Others have reported success insalling these drivers on XP.

Like Marcelo said, but don't try to install video, sb450, and gart at the same time. Force the video in by selecting add new hardware- display and it will go. The audio is correct too. If you choose the select a device driver for the modem it ib already in XP pro under Agere (now LSI)

The problem with vista is the compatibility issues. Eight months back when I finished building my dream machine. I encounter countless issues with vista home premium. I deleted programs that were essential for me to use. The other problem solver was to buy new software with the vista logo. Even these had to be patched. Finally I rolledback to XP. I sometimes compared this to the quad chip. I don't know why I bought it. All it is. Go out and spend more money.

you can download the catalyst driver and it will extract itself to c:> ATI
the full driver name is: 8-10-igp_xp32_dd_ccc_wdm_sb_gart_enu_69561
and you will find it in the AMD web site under drivers for XP Pro....hope I have helped you.
