I just purchased Toshiba Satellite A135-S4656 with Vista Home Basic on it. I decided to down grade it to Xp pro. It got installed fine but now I am having hack of time finding the network drivers for Xp pro. From other forums I foudn out that the driver needed is Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC but so far I havent had any luck. I would really appreciate if anyone can help me out.
Why Toshiba would not provided the driver for XP pro is beyond my knowledge. some customer service they are providing.
-
Have you looked at the the Realtek website?
-
I see no reason why they should provide drivers for anything besides the installed operating system. JMO

For those of you interested I completed a Windows XP SP2 downgrade and I have the files/drivers setup in a ZIP file with a Word doc of the installation order I took (sometimes installation order can cause problems). I would be more than happy to email you the package if anybody is interested.
Chip -
Thanks! -
Yeah, if you could post the installation order, that would be great.
-
what % of complete functionality do you have with these drivers? I had a hell of a time getting anywhere with this.
-
Please email the install info etc. I have read people having fan issues?? Anyone have this issue ??
-
Someone please email me the zip file and instructions.
email to [email protected] -
Sorry for the me too, but, i also would like the zip file for the how2 Downgrade to XP including drivers.
thanks.
Avalien could you elaborate on, "the fan issues" please. -
One thread mentioned about someone saying the fan starts for 15 seconds then turns off for 5 seconds.
-
OK, anybody have a sugestion where I can put the files and doc where everybody can download it? I normally use a free service where I upload the file and then send an email from the web site when it available for download. My bandwidth for upload is not that great. I will paste the order I loaded everything next. Hope it makes sense...

Toshiba Satellite A135-S4656 XP Installation
• Loaded Windows XP SP2
• Drivers not found in Device Manager
o Ethernet Controller
o Ethernet Controller
o Mass Storage Device
o PCI Device
o SM Bus Controller
o Video Controller
o Video Controller (VGA Compatible)
• Loaded drivers/software files in the following order
o infinst_autol (SM Bus)
o setup (Realtek WDM Driver)
NOTE: modem device on High Definition Audio Bus will appear
o updated modem driver (Modem)
o updated Ethernet Controller #1 (Wired LAN)
o updated Ethernet Controller #2 (Wireless LAN)
o updated Mass Storage Device (Texas-Instruments-FlashMedia-Controller)
o Win2k_XP1431 (Video Controllers)
At this time, Device Manager indicated all drivers installed.
The parenthes indicate the folder I had the drivers filed. -
For those of you who sent me an email with a return, I uploaded the file on yousendit and you should be receiving info on how to download the file. I noticed it also posted a direct link for the next 7 days or 100 downloads (whichever comes first) so you may be able to download it direct from the following:
http://download.yousendit.com/487E59294BA7A2AA -
I showed all drivers functioning, was able to use modem, wireless, burn dvds, ect...
-
Past Toshibas I have owned, the fan is a function of the CMOS settings. It does come on in cycles in regards to CPU temperature and such.
-
Thanks for the link and upload chipoates.
I am very greatful for this, as the hardest part of the downgrade is the drivers.
Toshiba should take note, as this only makes them look bad for not supplying, the drivers themselves, (for other operating systems).
Couple of questions:
When you say "NOTE: modem device on High Definition Audio Bus will appear"
will that be in device manager?
When i upgrade the modem driver, Which .exe file do i use? is it the setup.exe, or agsetup3.exe, or cselect.exe,install.exe?
When you say -updated Ethernet Controller #1 (Wired LAN), Do i just extract these files to a folder? or is there a setup.exe file somewhere?
Also did you wipe the drive first? and did you get rid of the recovery partition for toshiba? before the install of XP.
Sorry for all the questions, but i havent done this before, and would like it to go smoothly. as i am sure everyone does.
Thanks for your help. -
Yes I wiped all partitions out and just created 1 partition. As for the driver installation, where I put the filename is the ones I actually executed. As for the rest I don't like to run the installation programs unless absolutely neccessary. I just go back into Device Manager and "Update Driver" and point it to the folder where the driver files are located. On a couple of these they may be located one more folder down from where I had already unzipped them.
-
Yes when you execute the Realtek WDM file, this installs the necessary High Definition drivers and will cause the modem entry to appear under Device Manager but you will not be able to install it as we have not gotten to that point. HOWEVER, it will install the drivers for the sound system at that time automatically,

hey chip can you please reupload or send to my email at [email protected]
thank you -
Wow! Didn't think that many people were trying go to XP with this laptop. I having a few issues with Outlook and my ISP at this moment on uploads, let me re-upload to yousendit and I will post a new link. Some of you suggested hosting the file, go for it.

I have run into the same problem of finding xp drivers for my new A135-S4656 laptop, and when i went to the link above it said that the maximum download limit was reached. So, if anyone can help me by sending all the drivers to my address, [email protected]. Thank you very much. -
Ok, I tried sendspace lite. If I read it right it will allow 1GB download bandwidth per day. For this file that will average maybe 10 downloads (I think) per day. Maybe. For some reason, I cannot send the file from my ISP webpage nor Outlook. Probably think I am spamming or something... Here is the link..

Thanks a lot for the drivers, I was able to download them from http://www.sendspace.com/file/yewomo. I really appreciate your help.
-
I have Chipoates distro @ http://gca.hopto.org:9090/ - I'm only going to keep this up for a little awhile. 70 meg download and the files have not been tested or known to work - use at your own risk.
-
I reinstalled this laptop with XP (SP2) before I read this topic and all of the follow-ups. Like everyone else, I have the same problem. Before reinstallation, I had a screen print of the device manager which displays most of the hardware devices. I was able to install most of the drivers, except for 2,
Mass Storage Controller
SM Bus Controller
For "SM Bus Controller", I would think it has something to do with the chipset. But, I have no idea what this "Mass Storage Controller" is. It can't be the HD or CD/DVD. Anyway, I am downloding the package files. I will let you all know the result. And, hopefully, I will have time to list the download links of the drivers.
peace4future -
sm bus controller you have to manually install after you unzip the file. go into the sm bus folder and run the setup file.
I have a question about pc device, it's still saying it's not installed. Did you do update driver or do i have to run one of the executable files from the certain location? -
figured it out...
Thanks a lot for these drivers chip!!! -
-
These drivers are for the Intel chipset model A135 S4656. If you are trying this with a different model, Toshiba will sometimes use nVidia or ATI. The order in which you load it will also affect the driver installation. I listed the programs I ran under the folders where the software is located. The others I just updated or re-installed the drivers from the folder locations.
-
The mass storage controller is the card reader driver by TI...
-
Chipoates! Thank you so much.
-
Drivers and process has been tested to be good, as far as I can tell. My device manager looks clean now. I would add to his procedure you need to go into video directory and double click the file to run the video driver process as update driver does not work for the video driver, at least for me. Thank you for making this process a charm Chipoates!!!!
. When I 1st read up on this, I thought it was going to be a nightmare getting XP on.
-
[email protected] Yousendit and such dont seem to be working.
I think that its working now. Ill let you know if anything changes. -
Hi folks,
I' trying to do the same downgrade. I tryed to integrate some drivers with nLite.
It seems to go ok untill the format of the drivers (I made two partitions on the HDD) but then, when XP has to restart to start with the installation it doesn't work and gives me a blue error screen for less than 1 sec, so that I can't even read the messages and then it retryes the reboot in an infinite loop.
Some suggestion?
Can someone email me the doc with the instructions to install XP on this laptop?
Thank you
P.S. This installation is for my girlfriend laptop and I'm installing an Italian version of XP Pro. Can it be a problem? -
I've added Windows 2003 driver install pack to the website. Not sure if all the drivers work for Windows XP though. Thanks to Winbatch for nice little distro.

Chip,
Please help me with your XP Driver "magic potion" for the Toshiba A135-4656 notebook.
You had it posted on the web at one point for those who were interested, but by the time I could get to it, it was too late.
It's been a week since I have been looking for a solution to this problem; I hope you can help, and thank you in advance.
Thanks,
rykofie -
Could you kindly send me a list of your screenshot? Unfortunately, I didn't even think about doing that before installing XP.
And if possible, could you send me a copy of the drivers you were able to install successfully?
I would appreciate it.
Thanks,
rykofie -

Thank you so much Chipotatoes
I did the downgrade to XP and was having problems with Google Earth earlier but was able to solve the problem by right clicking the Google Earth icon on the desktop, clicking "Properties" and "Compatibility" and unchecking "Run in 256 colors". -
