That's probably because they're still being sold with the old graphics driver and BIOS. After updating them both from Toshiba's website, my A210's occasional blanking out of the screen went. It never used to happen when in 'High Performance' mode anyway, which wasn't a problem as I run off the mains 99% of the time anyway.

Unfortuntley these are new notebooks, i know it's about making money but this is nuts...
these new units shou;dnt need an immediate upgrade, even so, I hear this isn't the issue....
I did hear running in high performance like mentioned solved the problem...another thing people shouldnt be forced to do...
i really liked this unit and had high hopes for it. I was going to replace a 6 yr old satellite with it...

I have an A215 with the same blank screen problem - changing the power settings fixed it, but I'd like to update the BIOS. Where can I find directions on how to do that? Will it involve reinstalling Vista?

I know if you go to toshibas web site, you can click on support, then updates...something like that. you can select your model, and get a list of updates....
I havent heard if it's the BIOS....seems to have troubled alot of units since it came out..

Thanks -- but once I download the updates then what's involved with actually implementing the new BIOS? Is there some complex procedure involved with installing it that could mess up my computer even more? (Sorry for the ignorance, but I've never done this before...)

    no, no, it's automatic.
    Go to "Start"
    Click "Help and Support"
    Click "Toshiba Console"
Click "Toshiba Console" on the left.
Then you'll see a wrench that says "Toshiba Hardware Settings" Click that and you'll see which BIOS version you have.
This is XP but I believe Toshiba has this same application or program on all models, let me know if it works.
(I have a toshiba, this is where I got the info)
I really like the A215, I wanted one for such a long time. I hope this solves the issue.
