I have the A215-7422 Satellite... I have had it for about six or eight months now and because it's used infrequently, I have yet to setup a lot of the software (specifically the mcafee anti-virus). not really having anything on the machine, it hasn't been a hug concern.
now, I plan to use it more... I'd like to first restore to the factory default configuration. as I do this, I will run disk wipe with at least the dod level mode.
my question is this... how do I make recovery / restore cd's for this model? frankly, I don't recall if it came with a cd or not and the box is buried in the garage somewhere and I am traveling for several weeks.
secondly, what the concensus on mcafee & the toshiba... I'm a norton fan but the machine come with a mcafee trial version.
any thoughts, recommendations?
thanks you in advance for your help!

Read this (your user guide) from page 53 on:

That's step by step instructions for making recovery CD's and recovering.
Personally I would say just wipe the current OS partition and leave the recovery partition intact, as that doesn't have any data worth securely deleting. (It would still be wise to make the recovery CD's incase something goes wrong with the recovery partition).
Mcafee is good but there is plenty of free software listed in this thread that is just as good or better:
