I have another question to the well informed, i currently have a Toshiba satellite A500 which has a P7450 @2.16ghz. Can i upgrade this processor to an
    INTEL CORE2 EXTREME CPU X9100 @ 3.06ghz? INTEL CORE2 EXTREME CPU X9100 @ 3.06ghz - like T9900 (eBay item 260791831783 end time 07-Jun-11 13:11:28 AEST) : Computers
The socket`s are identical as are the voltages and i had read somewhere that it was the fastest my laptop could handle.
only thing is Toshiba`s support says the processor cannot be upgraded, id like to know from some of you though as you probably know more than the Toshiba folk

The only way to upgrade the speed is to buy a new computer, but if you have low memory, you can upgrade memory say from 2 GB to 4 GB by buying new memory card.

Ok I gotta feeling you may be able to upgrade.

First thing first you need to establish what mainboard you have in the laptop.

Run this and have a look at the tab "mainboard" it will tell you the chipset and the board. I can then investigate how compatible it is.

It will be a tricky job to replace but there are guides and technical repair manuals available to do it.

Get back with your board type and I will find out for you.

As long as your CPU ain't soldered to your motherboard, theoretically you should be able to upgrade to a x9100. P7450 and X9100 both use socket P, I don't see how a x9100 shouldn't work.

you have the same front side bus speed as that processor. I found a website that is chinese based and the translation is does say they had upgraded that CPU wiht that board and chipset.

I reckon if you can get it cheap its worth a go. Only issue I would have is its a engineering sample CPU. I would be wary of that. My friend is sponsered by MSI and recieves ES CPU's and you are not allowed to sell them. They are OWNED by the CPU manufacturer, Also it may be unstable and COULD damage your laptop.

It may not but its worth being wary. The reason they are smaple is they are given out for testing before release.

here is the service manual right click save as is best when I opened it in a window adobe reader kept erroring, I downloaded it and checked for virus its clean.
