    Hey guys,

I have a Toshiba Satellite A665-11Z with an i7 740QM processor which isn't a Sandy Bridge processor. It currently has 4GB RAM with a speed of 1066MHz.

I was thinking of upgrading it to 8GB RAM, specifically this one: Kingston 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1600MHz HyperX Plug N Play.. | Ebuyer.com

Now this specific RAM stick has been reviewed on this site with a similar laptop model to mine which has a Sandy Bridge processor. I'm assuming if I was to get this RAM, I wouldn't be able to benefit from the overclocking as my laptop wouldn't support it(?). If it doesn't support it, what's the next best thing to get? I want to get 8GB RAM with the highest performance possible. I've done some research and read that the difference between 1066MHz and 1333MHz isn't very noticeable except during benchmarks. Heck I don't even know what the max my laptop supports, so I'm quite stuck. :(

    Thoughts...?

Non-Sandy Bridge i7 Toshiba only officially support 1066 mhz ram [4GB per slot]
However, users were able to upgrade their non-Sandy Bridge Toshiba Qosmios from 1066MHZ to 1333MHZ. Non-Sandy Bridge laptops DO NOT support 1600mhz; even though it may downclock to 1333 or 1066.
    Look here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/toshiba/544627-ram-x505-q894.html

1333mhz is worth a shot, but if it doesn't work, it should just down lock to 1066MHZ anyways; no guarantee on this though.

    Good luck

Thanks for the reply. I've checked using AIDA64 and it seems my motherboard will support up to 1333MHz, but I'm not convinced that it will, because I'm pretty sure the BIOS changelog for my laptop said they had down clocked it. :( It shouldn't matter though, as it should downclock as you said.

Just need to check which is the best timings, etc.
