I'm trying to determine the specific differences between the new ATI Radeon Mobility 3100 and 3200 integrated graphics (IGP). The HD 3200 is a great performer and has been called "revolutionary" by more than one reviewer. But I'm curious to learn how the 3100 performs relative to the 3200. The desktop Radeon 3100 is a de-contented version of the 3200, so it seems logical the same is true for the Mobility versions...but what features and capabilities aren't included in the Mobility 3100 compared to the Mobility 3200????
I've spent a few hours on the AMD website trying to find all the specifications of each model- NO LUCK! The only additional information I found was the model number of the AMD Chipset that corresponds to the 3100/3200. The AMD M780G chipset has the HD 3200 IGP and the AMD M780V has the 3100 IGP...but that tells me next to nothing!
Toshiba seems to be the only one using the M780V chipset and 3100 IGP, to the best of my knowledge at least. The only AMD processors are the 1.9GHz QL-60 (on the L305D) and the 2.0GHz RM-70 (on the A305D/P305D). HP used the M780G and HD 3200 with those same two processors as well as with the new Turion Ultra models (ZM-80, ZM-82).
So, I'm just curious what the performance difference will be in real world use? Will the 3100 live up to most of the HD 3200's lofty reputation?

There is a bit of performance difference between the HD3200 & the 3100 from what I can gather from synthetic benchmarks. As far as features is concerned the mobile variants should be feature equivalent to the desktop cards. I dont get why Toshiba is using the M780V/3100 combo, price maybe an issue but honestly it shouldnt cost too much extra since HP quite easily seem to be selling these in $599 laptops.

The 3100 has a 300MHz core speed, while the 3200 has a 500MHz core speed. It also doesn't have HDMI support. You may be able to overclock it though when software utilities like ATITool or Rivatuner get support for it. But still, the price difference between the two chipsets shouldn't be much and I don't understand why some OEMs are using the 3100 and it's lack of HDMI, something that is now a staple of entertainment/multimedia computers.

I'm leaning more toward HP at this point anyway, but if I'd probably go for a dedicated graphics card such as the HD 3470 or HD 3650 if I decided to go with a Toshiba... -
I would get a 3650 if you can get your hands on one, or at least a 3470 or 3450. The HD3100 is like 3/5 of a HD3200 IGP.
