    Aloha all,

I just purchased a Toshiba P205D-S7479 notebook, and I am excited to get it delivered to me. I noticed it has a AMD Turion 64 X2 Dual-Core Mobile Technology Gold Edition TL-64 processor on board. I am a fan of AMD technology and my last notebook, an eMachines M5312, also had AMD.

My question is, what is the difference between the AMD Turion 64 X2 Dual-Core Mobile Technology Gold Edition TL-64 and a regular AMD Turion 64 X2 Dual-Core Mobile Technology TL-64 processor? In other words, what makes a Gold Edition processor so special? I looked on the AMD website for info, but I could not find anything specific on the Gold Edition.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Guido

I don't believe there is a difference. "Gold" implies that it's one of the faster Turions out there.

Thanks much everyone! I appreciate the feedback on this. On another note, the AMD website did mention that their processors can also support up to PC2-6400 (DDR2/800MHz) RAM. Does this mean that my computer can effectively utilize this type of RAM, or would I need to adjust something to use this? My new computer, the Toshiba Satellite P205D-S7479 utilizes PC-5300 (DDR2/667MHz)...but I would like to upgrade to 800MHz if possible. Any thoughts?

You can upgrade to the DDR2 800MHz PC6400 RAM option, but I believe you'd need to remove the PC5300 RAM and replace it with PC6400 RAM.
