Anyone know if toshiba solved the screen blanking out and the computer going unresponsive on their 215's??
All of the 215's seem to suffer this fate. Everything is fine, then the screen goes blank and to get the system going again, you need to reboot...

I never saw this on the A215 I reviewed.

I have an A210 (UK model). Which when I first got it would occasionally blank out and say the video driver had stopped responing but has now recovered. I never had to restart the computer as a result of the screen banking out though, and it didn't happen when using the "High Performance" power plan.

After installing the BIOS and Video Driver updates that were released at the begining of November it has been fine in all the power plans.

I purchased an A215 from Office Depot last week, prior to researching. (it was an exceptional deal!) I had the same problem, after doing a Google search, it became apparent that this is serious issue with this series. Look to Amazon customer reviews.
I did reach Toshiba tech support, and they confirmed that this issue is prevalant. Thay have a "hot fix" run the CPU at 100% (power schemes-processor management) they indicated that is a temporary solution and are working on a more realistic correction. The attendant offered to contact me when said was accomplshed, but I declined, as I had the luxury of returning it.
BTW Office Max does not have a restocking fee, un-like Best Buy or Circuit City.(15%!) I really did like the Toshiba, but that was a deal breaker, I am currently laptopless, and will most likely wait a few weeks to see if they sort it out, I would most likely purchase another one (Toshiba)

Yes, Circuit City and Best Buy are also plagued with tons of complaints on the 215's for the same issue. It's nice it didn't happen on the review of the notebook....but also too bad...it really is a bad problem. It steered me away from toshiba, into the most reliable fujitsu line...
