Is it worthwhile upgrading the AMD Turion 64 TK-55 cpu on my toshiba A215? If so what would be a good cpu upgrade?

You can if you want a 500-600MHz boost. You could get a TL-66 (2.3) or a TL-68 (2.4) for your laptop. Probably can be found on eBay or another online retailer.

One correction, the TK series is branded as Athlon not a Turion. Essentially, the Athlon TK's have half as much level 2 cache and lack support for hardware based virtualization compared to the regular Turion X2's. So clock for clock the Turion will be only slightly faster and virtualization support is useless unless you want to run a virtual OS.

As for as if it is worthwhile, it depends on your needs. The TL 66/68's are a bit expensive(if you buy new from a retailer). The performance improvement will be there but wont be as apparent say if you upgraded the RAM or the hard disk which are to an extent the weaker links.

I don't think a upgrade would be very useful.
Normal applications would not be much faster.
There will be a little less heat with the TL series but thats about it.
Too much work and money nothing.

Good point. I read that AMD's cpu architecture is different that L2 cache isnt that big of deal compare to Intel that is all about having a big L2 cache? If that is the case, does a 1gb vs 512mb L2 cache on an AMD really make that much of a difference? I'm a little behind on my computer knowledge.

Do you mean 1mb(2*512kb) vs 512kb(2*256kb)?
Unless you do video animations, convert a lot of movies, do heavy cpu intensive stuff, then you wouldn't really notice the difference.
Even for gaming, you really don't need a fast fast cpu.
If you do internet, msn, some movies, some older games, your TK-55 shouldn't be a problem.
Your cpu is probably faster than my 1.5ghz C2D
