Hi there,
I am thinking about getting either a Sony FE890 or Toshiba A130-ST1312(customer config model) with 7600 gpu. The main concern is LCD quality.
I checked out Toshiba A135 models such as S4467, S4447 in stores and their LCDs are very good. If the A130 uses the same LCD screen, I would definitely prefer the toshiba A130 over the Sony's which has bad light leakage when the screen is dark.
Can anyone confirm/verify that A130 LCD is the same as A135, or as good as the A135 in terms of brightness, viewing angle...?
I noticed an A100/A105 machine (predecessor of A130/A135) in office depot had a dim out issue, and certainly would want to know if A130 and A135 models are free from such issue.
Dim-out issue is , when you move your eyes up and down but still looking at the LCD screen at the same height level( as your eyes), you would notice a darken area across the width of the screen occurs from the upper edge of the LCD. This area grows larger as your eyes move lower, just like a dropping curtain follwing your eye movement.
This darken area has a noticable edge and it is not a gradual drop of brightness, which is normal on all LCDs.
All Toshiba P100/p105 17" models as well as Sony AR 17" models I checked out in stores have this dim-out issue. And that is part of the reason I stay away from 17" notebooks.
Thanks for your information,

Well, can't do much more than give you a bump.
I have a custom a130 but I got the non-glossy screen. I didn't want the glare of the glossy screen. The screen is the only thing about the laptop I'm not real happy with but that is 90% because of the resolution. At 1440x900 it's not got as much desktop as I would like. The screen is good quality and don't notice any light leekage around the case. I do think this screen has a narrower viewing angle than I would like as well. I had to make a compromise on the screen because going to the next step up (resolution wise) was about $300 more, and a different laptop.
I wouldn't think there would be any reason they would have different screen for the custom model.
Hope that helps. -
Thanks for your reply Am_Dragon,
I finally got mine A130 and was relieved to find out the LCD is as good as those A135 models in stores. No perfect but better than many other machines.
The big gripe I now have is that A130 and many A135 do not have internal microphone! Why?!?!
