I don't know why it's trying to go out through any external devices. I just want to watch it on the laptop for now. I don't even own an HDTV yet.
Any ideas as to what it is?
Thanks,
Sam

What programs are you trying to play the disc through? Make sure your GPU is HDCP compliant
-
Toshiba HD DVD player. It came loaded on my machine.

Is it at least recognizing the disk? Also do you have any connections to the NB going to an external device. I slightly remember this error when I tried t use Toshiba's software to play a normal DVD via HDMI. I had to use Windows Media Player to get the normal DVD to show up on my TV.
Since you don't have a HDTV yet, you're probably not using HDMI.
Do you have any external devices connected to the NB, like the tuner?
Are you playing a normal DVD with Toshiba's software? Use Windows Media Player and see if you get the same error.
Are you getting this error with a HD DVD? Download a trial version of another program and see if you get the same error. -
Great ideas to try.
I can play a normal DVD through Windows Media Center, but not HD DVD's. Anytime I try to run movies through Toshiba's HD player, I get that movie regardless if its HD or regular DVD.
I'm not using any external devices, except a mouse. I'll try to find some trial software. This seems like an odd error. I haven't tried to contact Toshiba about this yet. If I can't get this resolved I may have to resort to that.
Thanks for the help narrowing things down! -
I tried InterVideo WinDVD Platinum and cannot get it to work. I tried updating the firmware and I cannot (perhaps I did it already). I can see the files on the DVD and I can open them via WinDVD, but I cannot view them via WinDVD. I can play regular dvd movies via Windows Media Player and WinDVD.
I open Toshiba HD DVD player and it gives me the error even if I don't have a disc in the drive!
I did contact tech support and it was a nightmare! I thought HP's support was bad. These poor souls have absolutely no clue about these computers. I would expect them to at least be familiar with them to some degree. I finally was transferred to level 2 and placed on hold for who knows how long. I then got voicemail. Great! They are supposed to call me within 4 hours, but I'm not expecting anything.
Oh yeah, and he wanted me to reload my computer to fix it. That is so typical India tech support! -
Which video drivers are you using?
-
Whatever came on the recovery disc.
Driver version 7.15.11.138 -
You've got nothing to lose by trying this....
Download the driver:
http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/su/su_sc_dtlViewDL.jsp?soid=1764407&moid=1757703&rpn=PSPB9U&BV_SessionID=@@@@2119619667.1190861356@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccceaddmdklifdmcgfkceghdgngdgnn.0&ct=DL&all_docs=false
Then uninstall the nvidia driver using the control panel, and when the laptop restarts, install this one, restart, and then try the dvd again. -
Same thing, I'm afraid.

They fixed my machine! It was the the sound card driver. I thought everything was fine after reloading Windows, but that was the one thing I guess I forgot to load. Now I can enjoy some HD movies!
Another HD DVD error..
