Okay, a little under a year ago, I posted a thread on the X870 3D Laptop With Core i7-3610QM and GeForce GTX 670M, which was the "next gen" Qosmio back then. Now is there any news on what's coming next? I still have my X505-Q893 lappy I bought when it first about 2 and a half years ago and so far, nothing that has come since has made me want to upgrade.
But almost 30 months later, I am thinking it may be time to start seriously considering an upgrade. Any news yet?

No news on the next generation of Qosmio at CES. However, the current x870s will get a pretty nice upgrade. Toshiba announced they will include a 1 TB Hybrid drive [HDD + SSD].

I think it will be at least a year before the next generation Qosmios is launched. I say this because the x870 series is not so much of a step forward upgrade, as it was a sidestep upgrade [x770s and x870s are VERY similar]. -
I disagree about the sideways upgrade. The GPU in the X870 is the 670m, which is a nice bump over the 560m. I like the idea of a hybrid drive, but I would be more impressed with an even better GPU, to be quite honest. I guess if I have to upgrade any time soon, which isn't likely, I will look to Asus, MSI, or perhaps Sager/Clevo.

Just bumping this up to see if there is any news on the next gen of Qosmios yet.

I'm hoping this summer we might see a x875 refresh with the launch of the new Intel Haswell; or better yet a new redesigned model.
I am just speculating though -
Considering the current gen Qosmio, the X870 and 875 with the 670m GPU came out about a year ago, I am surprised there has been no word on the next gen yet.
-
Never brought one and don't know much about Toshiba's timetable but I would think with Haswell due out soon a next gen Qosmio would follow. If not a month after sometime in late summer/fall.
I thought all or most the manufactures would be coming out with new hardware for Haswell. -
I'm kinda shocked to see that the X875 models weren't updated with a 670MX. It's faster and runs cooler than the 670M.
Oh well. I can dream... -
I'm surprised that over a year has gone by without ANY refresh of the line from Toshiba. Honestly, Toshiba has released new or refreshes every six months on the Qosmio line. Makes me wonder if this means there is something huge coming for this line in the Fall?

nice . this is on my hit list for end of summer when some prices drop hopefully on the gaming laptop lines. does anyone know if the 770m is based on the newer architecture ie kepler or a rehash of the 670m which was fermi based
-
I would guess Kepler; as the GTX 670m was replaced with a Kepler version a few months back [GTX 670M X].
Notebookcheck confirms it is a Kepler [looks to be a slightly higher clocked GTX 670M X].

hmm hopefully . the video card listed on the current model is 670M not MX. would be great if it drops down to $1000-1200 later on. haswell is not quite attractive to me anyway with little performance benefit and usb issues, ivy bridge would be fine but the 670M is quite a turn off.
-
Ya sorry; I didn't mean the Qosmio replaced the GTX 670m, but that the GTX 670m was replaced by nvidia with the GTX 670MX. [which is a GTX 770m].

Looks like it's the same single fan setup as in all the other 17.3" Qosmios...how's the overheating issues so far?
I'm surprised Harmon/Kardon don't appear anywhere on the laptop...their name's usually pretty noticeable on the chassis.
Those unaligned WASD keys would drive me nuts, but that's just me. Win8...bleh.
I dunno, I'm just kinda lukewarm on laptops these days. I know my X505-Q893 isn't that powerful anymore, but I really can't tell while using it. I suspect the 945p screen goes a long way toward extending its longevity.
Any Information On the Next Gen Qosmio?
