The more I look at my price range, or potential price range, and the more I have read about other brands, I am about ready to look more serious at the Satellite. Only problem is I know nothing about Toshiba except for the fact they were one of the leaders in the Laptop world back in the 80's.
Is there any particular model of the Satellite series to avoid in terms of over heating, or any other well known problem??
I intend to use what I get daily, from moderate to somewhat heavy use on some days.

I just avoid Toshiba completely, they have a lot of overheating issues. A75 s206 OVERHEATING! Can't remain on for full 10 minutes, but with new motherboard that doesn't happen. Then again, it still overheats enough that you'll have to vacuum the dust bunnies out.

^^ Thats because of the Pentium 4 CPU it uses. I would know because I owned an A70 with a 3GHz Prescott core in it.

I agree that you should avoid Toshibas. Although I am against making such broad statements, my family has bought 3 Toshiba laptops over the past 3 years, and all of them have failed; mainly due to their design and poor quality.

it is very sill comment , you can not judge an entire line of any brand by testing a couple of lappies of any line of any brand.

my XPS had a bad case and bad mother bord , so Dell is a horrible company?

no Dell is a great pc OEM and I will continue to support it.

a couple of my Toshiba laptops(M205, U305) are very fine and I don't baby them either.

my HP laptops are very reliable too , so you can not judge a brand by knowing just a couple of models you bought for your family.

    please be logical.

PS.there are many complainers of any brand in any forum but there are also many happy users of any brand who do not come out here to speak about it loud because they are happy.

if any one sees this or any forum , you will be scared to buy anything..

remember if any brand has such a serious issue, it can not stay in business, so most of all brands you can buy are ok.

Yeah, I pointed out that the judgement was passed on my experience; secondly, it is possible for certain brands to produce total crap. Enter Toshiba. Search online and you will see that most Toshibas have serious design issues (improperly grounded speakers, faulty motherboards, faulty BIOS updates that brick the computer, flimsy power jacks, etc, etc, etc....)

But even if you look at the newest models in the stores, absolutely none of them have decent build quality; they are all as thick as a cinder block, and made of cheap plastics. On the other hand, Toshiba has launched their new Fusion line of laptops. So for now, I'm not going to advise forum members to buy Toshibas; mainly because I know from experience, and the experience of many other customers.

I'm with you man. The sound on the X205s practically can't be beat, and it plays video games. I think that this laptop is built a lot better than my DV6000, and it doesn't overheat like my HP did (memory compartment was really hot on that one). My CPU hits a max temp. of 52C and my 2 GPUs only touch 90c when OC'd to their general limit (575/850). Oh yeah and did I forget to mention that there is literally no palmrest heat, despite the fact that there are 2 7200RPM hard drives inside it (at 38c)? Those don't sound like cons about Toshiba at all.

The sound quality on my Toshiba X205-9800 is awesome and by far the best I have heard from any laptop ever. The screen is incredibly bright (too bright at default settings, had to turn it down), easily usable in bright daylight. The build quality seems very good to me and the 8700 GT w/DDR3 GPU is awesome. This is a great budget gaming laptop (I paid about $1250, but some have gotten them for as low as $1070 that I know of).

All laptop brands have their problems, but I think Toshibas are as good as any. The X205-9800 is a very good looking machine with a great keyboard and loads of nice features. My only gripe is they put 4 of the 6 USB ports up on the right front side of the machine. How dumb. About the worst place you could put 'em. But this is a minor complaint. Overall, I love this rig.

Good specs and good price. Should be especially good for video. Probably pretty good for most games as well (not quite as good as the 9800/9810, though, nor the SLI models, of course). You may want to drop by a store and check out the new look, some people like it, some don't. I haven't seen any reviews yet, but I didn't search either.

    Good luck!
