Been looking at a lot of laptops: thinkpad T420/420s, E420s, Dell lattitude, Sony...The R840 seems to have pretty good specs minus the display. Anyone have any comments or suggestions??? Will there ever be an option for a higher res screen? I chatted with Toshiba and they have no info regarding display upgrades.

I doubt they will go higher on screen res; not usually Toshiba's game plan.

The new Tecras seem to be pretty inline with the new Portege's. I think Toshiba merged the 2 and used the same chassis, but different sizes (portege 13.3" vs Tecra 14" [r840] and 15.6" [r850]).

I would just look at Portege reviews/issues.

    Good luck

    **EDIT**
Looks like the Tecra r840/r850 have more "upgrades" than the portege r830.
