If so, what do you think? I just picked this up at BB for $649+tax and pretty much like it. Seems to take forever to boot though. Could be the shovelware preinstalled?

I have this same laptop from BB. First the good: speakers are great, good looks and small size are a plus. Has all the bells and whistles I need including the processor, drive size, blu-ray and wifi. Price was competitive for the i5 processors line of laptops.

The bad: as you have probably already experienced is that the Toshiba "shovelware" preinstalled makes the i5 processor work slower than expected. I compared this to the Lenovo with an i5 processor and it was a much faster performer. I'm disappointed with its performance to open software (MS Office) and boot up a browser. The time between clicking the icon and when the software actually looks like its booting can be 3-5 seconds...and no clock or anything to tell you that you correctly clicked the icon. The lag time is irritating, but livable.

Once you have all the programs you need up and running the pc works great. But then, the battery life suffers. Even in "Eco" mode, the best battery life is about 2 to 2.5 hours. And that's on a full charge. Plus, in eco mode, the screen dims after about 15-20 seconds of no action. Gets irritating after awhile, but again...livable.

Other than the small irritants above, the laptop is a nice performer when all software is up and running. I emailed to Toshiba to see if there's a way to remove their resident software to increase performance but have not heard yet. If anyone knows of a way to do this, please let us know.

To increase bootup times and programs, try upgrading your harddrive to a hybrid (HDD + SDD) or a pure SDD drive.
