I'd been looking at trying to get a dual core laptop with upgraded GPU, over my current Tecra S3. I'd gone back and forth over the Tecra M5, A7, Asus A8JM, Compal HEL80 and HGL30, and even looked into trying to get the LG M1 or Samsung R65. I then started to think that since my biggest need, (after nVidia GPU for Linux support), is for screen real estate, I should probably seriously consider the P100. It was the only Satellite laptop with a good nVidia option on BTO. I even thought about the P105s, especially the Amazon deal on the 2ghz one, but then I noticed the WXGA screen.
And then Toshiba up and put out a 25% promo for back to school (two days only, ends today, 7/11), and I priced out a maxed P100, nVidia 7600 w/256mb, WSXGA+ w/Trubrite, 2.16ghz Dual Core, WiFi/BT, DVD Multi drive, with just stock RAM and HDD, (since I already have my 120gb SATA and 2-1gb 667 mem sticks), and found out it could be had for around 1800 USD, with the promo.. With a copper top no less! And that was it.. Besides the Amazon P105 deal, that price is at least 5-700 dollars less than anything else I was looking at..
<sigh> I will just need to start working out and getting ready for lifting the extra .7 lb through the airports... but I got my screen real estate now.. Not only 1680x1050, but on a 17" screen and not 15.4"..

That sucks, I didn't even know they were doing a promo like that.

Actually, they still have it on the page as of right now, but they only list 3 customizable models for 25% off when you customize them, and they seem to be only cheaper models. How did you get it to apply to the P100?
EDIT: duh, never mind, just remembered the P100 was and is available there. I remember why I didn't do it now though........ the GeForce 7600 was the most you could put in there. I didn't see the advantage of that compared to the P105 with a 7900GS. -
Anyway it would have been nicer to have the faster nVidia GPU, but my big deal is not that, it's screen size. The 7600 will definitely work for what I need (pretty light gaming).
Anyone else use the 25% Back to School Promo at Toshibadirect.com?
