I'm looking at getting the R930, coming from a Sony S-series that I gave to my brother. I'm just wondering what experiences you guys have had with your laptop.

    Thanks.

That's weird. Usually Best Buy has either the z or r series portege in stock. But I did just check their site and they're all gone. Perhaps Toshiba has another refresh planned soon [I believe the 900 series came out 6-8 months ago].

i've owned an older R700 for a few years now, never skipped a beat and a very solid and pretty quick machine. passed it to our lass now and shes given it some hammer the past 12 months as well with no issues.physically stood up well too, no issues with case cracks, flex, chipping, scratching, keys falling off. literally as good as it was in terms of cosmetic condition 2 years ago bar a bit of shininess on the keys and track pad

only slight concern with it is it is a little noisey under heavy cpu load so when shes on the facetube games like farmidiotville its like a mini hoover!lol!

thanks for the feedback guys. also i see conflicting info regarding max memory. some sites like Crucial, etc show you can go up to 16gb on the custom R930, but toshiba shows it as maxed out at 8gb.

not sure chap, sometimes the capabilities of the chipset and cpu will support more RAM but the manufacturers can restrict it

having said that the supposed max memory on my Z830 is 6Gb and I stuck a 8Gb into it to make 10Gb total with no issues.
