    Hi,
I have a Toshiba Satellite 1415 s105 and I was wondering how I could tell if I have a bad video driver? I downloaded a video driver from Toshiba but I still have video trouble. Is there a different video driver I could use, if so can you reccommend where I get it from? Can I replace my video driver or is it part of my motherboard? Lastly can I install an external video driver?
    Thanks for all your help,
    Steven

What is the trouble you are having exactly? Yes there's a different driver, check your manufacturer's website. Yes you can replace the driver. It's software, not a physical part of your mobo. What do you mean by "install and external video driver"?

    Adinu,
The monitor is just terrible, the screen is wavy, lots of purple color. It's very hard to even read what I am writing. I guess I meant to ask how could I check to see if my video card is bad and if I can install an external one.

You don't need drivers for that, just plug it in and enable it.

But if your LCD looks like that, it's most likely a bad screen, not driver issue.

    adinu,
I hooked up a desktop monitor to my laptop and I still have a flickering screen. Today I used DirectX Diagnostic Tool. I went to the heading for Display and under notes it said "the system is using the generic video driver. Please install the video driver provided by the hardware manufacturer" At Toshiba's site all I was able to find is the display driver which I installed but did not help. Any ideas???

    What gpu do you have?

You can look on the manufacturer's website aka nvidia, or intel, or ati, or whatever else it is and you can get the latest drivers. The one offered by toshiba aren't usually the latest.

If that doesn't change anything, then your card is fried because it's displaying bad things on both internal and an external LCD.

    Hi,
My gpu is listed as nvidia geforce 420 Go. Yes, I went to nvidia website but they do not have that driver. I guess because it's outdated. I do not know what the new version should be. I did randomly download a few video drivers and when I tried to install it I would always get a message that it was the wrong version or a file was missing. I did this last week and forgot what file(s) were missing. If you need this info I'll get it for you. I guess my question to you is do you know what driver I should download from nvidia or how I find out what to download?
Thanks for your time and help.
    Steven

    Chaz,
That sure seemed like the right driver but it did not work. I got the following message when I tried to install: The nvidia setup could not locate any drivers that are compatable with your hardware. Setup will now exit.
Does this mean that my card is shot? If so can I replace it or install an external card. I have a toshiba satellite 1415 s105.

Skip that part, and just install the new drivers. It is not 100% necessary to uninstall the ones that are already installed.
