This is really weird, I have a Toshiba A300, and just today, when I plugged in my laptop the battery starts to charge for a minute and then stops. If I remove the battery the laptop still runs, so I know the power supply is not the problem.

I'm running Vista Home Premium 64 Bit. Does anyone know why this is occurring? Also my warranty just expired last month, so this isn't exactly good timing.

I have a p305-frequently have the same problem. removing and re-inserting the charger plug into the computer usually seems to resolve the problem (or wiggling the plug in the socket until the AC plug and the battery indicators under the left click button illuminate).
It seems to me that I read a couple of posts somewhere that this is a common problem with the newer machines and this particular inside connection configuration. hope that helps.

I did try your suggestion, still no fix. When I plug it in, the battery LED lights up as charging and windows shows that its charging, however, the battery just doesn't charge anymore. It seems to for the first 5 seconds but then stops. So confused....

It could be one of two things. The one that makes the most sense is just.. your battery lost it's ability to hold a charge. Try replacing the battery (sucks about the warranty..). I also had an issue like this on an old Dell of mine. If you twisted the plug enough, the light would turn on and it'd charge. If not.. before ordering a battery.. to make sure that is the issue, if you know a friend with the same model, swap batteries and see.

No i know for sure its not a power issue, since the laptop runs fine with the adapter plugged in. I'm almost thinking maybe the circuit board or something is messed up, which is not transferring power to the battery. Its just so odd for the battery to just suddenly die one day, its not like it was a gradual process either.

same problem here. In my case it seems the electric instability causing battery sudden dead. No choice, replace with a new one, solve the problem.

I got a new battery and tried it, but still no luck. Now I'm really concerned, since it doesn't appear that the battery is defective but possibly my circuit board or something. I also shut down the laptop and left the battery in to charge, but still no luck. So I know its not a software issue. I also tried to release the electrical charge by holding down the power button with the battery removed and laptop unplugged. It didn't change anything...

Does anyone have any idea how I can solve this problem. I have no idea what internal issue it might be. I'm really concerned now, since I don't know if it will be cost beneficial to have the laptop repaired since my warranty expired. The laptop still works fine with the AC adaptor plugged in, its just such a pain to have to shut it down every time i move around. Plus now I'm practically stuck with this laptop, since no one would be willing to purchase it.

    help?

Same issue just today - battery just started draining - laptop ran fine @ 1% without charging the battery, but with charger still plugged in. Also power supply/charger is cold when normally hot...

Of course, warranty ran out 2 months ago.

    Toshiba Satellite A300 06H - 4 GB ram, T5800@ 2Ghz ATI radeon HD 3470 - Vista 64bit

Now, as I write this, the charger has warmed up and i am back @ 15% battery... seems like it might be a power supply/charger issue.
