Saw this laptop on the front cover of the weekend BestBuy circular, and appears to be a very attractive package. Anyone have early thoughts or reviews? I went to my local store tonight but it hadn't even been set up in the store to test out yet....the only big thing that worries me is the weight which is a little high, and no bluetooth.

    Built-in webcam and microphone

Well no one has responded. I went to another store today and actually got my hands on the machine. I've never owned a Toshiba before so have no track record with the brand, which is part of my apprehension.

The things I came away with:

No slot-loading CD (I miswrote before) and no bluetooth. No backlit keyboard.

They didn't have it with its 12-cell battery so it seemed fairly light but obviously with that sucker it's gonna be heavier than ideal for portable.

Finish was a little glossy for my taste but bushed on the outside.

The trackpad pinch-to-zoom was difficult - I could zoom out but pinching back in was hit or miss and not very responsive.

Nice screen and keyboard (chicklet) was good. Seemed reasonably solid build. Port and USB layout seemed well placed.

Overall, I am leaning towards taking the plunge and purchasing. It's a lot of computer for the price (599.99) given the 12-cell battery, 500GB HD @7200RPM, 16" screen and WiDi.

But I'd still love to hear someone else's opinion who either knows Toshiba machines or better yet has laid their hands on this one. Come on people, help a brother out. Thanks!

i expect this laptop to run for a long time, and because mine is discontinued, i'd expect yours to be even sturdier, and this is a sturdy laptop with a great keyboard.

i'd recommend getting it. this computer is fast, and yours will be faster, and i know toshiba is quality! my brother owns one that's newer and it's much better than mine. the new keyboards are really responsive, and the repair service is the best. you'll get your laptop back fixed in a couple of days! great warranty support!
