    My Gateway 6860 just fried after two years of perfect use... /tear

    So... I'm looking for a nice replacement. I know I can get one of "these"....

    Newegg.com - Recertified: ASUS G71GX-RX05 NoteBook Intel Core 2 Duo P8700(2.53GHz) 17.1" Wide XGA+ 6GB Memory DDR2 800 500GB HDD 5400rpm Super Multi DVD RW NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260M

    Is there a better "bang for my buck" out there? This looks like a steal really, but I have been seeing A LOT of problems with it and another more expensive ASUS.

    I am also considering this Toshiba at Costco... can't beat their warranty...

    http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?Prodid=11538890&whse=BC&Ne=5000001+4000000&eCat=BC|84|56670&N=4017745 4294966821&Mo=5&No=3&Nr=P_CatalogName:BC&Ns=P_Price|1||P_SignDesc1&lang=en-US&Sp=C&topnav=

    Thanks :)

    Honestly I think you are better off with even the low end Qosmio than with a G71. While the 360m of even the low end Qosmio is not vastly more powerful than the 260m of the G71, I think that overall you are getting more bang for your buck with the Toshiba.

    I would definitely get the Toshiba over that old Asus. You can also check some online stores if you want to avoid the sales tax.

    Ya just ordered the Toshiba :)

    The free 2-year warranty sealed it.

    Wow I thought Toshiba only offered a one year warranty on the Qosmios?

    That's true... but Costco offers an additional year on all computers/laptops.
