Blank screen on boot. Laptop doesn't start

Using toshiba a135-s2276 .

So it was working just fine. After a restart my toshiba refuses to boot. The power led comes on, the cd-rom spins for just a second,
But nothing on the screen shows up, not even the bios. The screen stays 'off'(no backlight)
I can hear the hard-disk spin silently if bring my head real close to it.

There is zero hard-disk activity.

I have tried -
- external monitor
- bought a new ram, was really hoping this will work...
- flashlight(to check the lcd)
- different ram slot
- removed battery and main power for a few hours
Apparently the cd-rom still works, if I put in a cd, it does spin nice and loudly but nothing happens.

Any other suggestion please?

I would say it's either your power adapter/jack or you have a fried motherboard.

But seeing as how you do have some power, it's more likely the power supply and not the actual motherboard.

 

it doesn't work with the battery as well. So me thinks it couldn't be the the power adapter/jack.
Also This happened after a normal windows restart, so I am hoping nothings fried.

 

I have disassembled my laptop completely.
SO only the cpu/ram are connected to the mobo, along with an edxternal monitor.
it still doesn't boot

No visible indication of anything wrong btw

IS there a definite method of knowing whats screwed up? Like when the cdrom was attached and had a cd in it, it used to spin on poweron. does that indicate whether the cpu is fine??
Also is there any hope from this position?

 

Do you see any activity on the indicator lights on the front? eg. HDD indicator

 

^the hdd light lights up for a second before switching off. HOwever I can hear the hard-disk spin(silently and all the time) if I bring my ear close to it.

 

i have the exact same problem did you ever figure whats wrong or can anyone answer the question its my friends laptop and she doesnt know much about computers

 

This sound like a motherboard problem, but you have to remember that at bootup it checks all the components to make sure all are working, so it could be a problem with the memory, other integrated component on the motherboard, if it was the hdd you would still be able to get into the bios. So the memory needs to be isolated (you can try it on another laptop if available) as the cause and if it checks ok then the only onther possible cause is the motherboard and from experience I have seen this type of motherboard failiure before, but Good Luck Guys!!.

 

yah i was thinking about running a memory dianostics on it but I shes I havent gotten a hold of the laptop

 

Hopefully you can get a hold of it soon and test the memory, because unlike a desktop PC remember that most of the components are integrated on the motherboard, well Good Luck!!.

 

same problem with me. however, laptop still works sometime. what about disconnecting and reconnecting the CMOS battery? some guy did it and it worked

mine still doesn't works
though it did work once today.... I have stripped it to teh motherboard, removed the cmos battery, tried a new ram.. no workie workie..

 

damn.... same thing just happened to my p105 today =(...

 

so I gave up on it, reassembled it(to keep it in the cupboard), pressed the power button(no harm in trying), and BAM! it started up again!!
and working since then.
but it only sort of works, major static comes from the speakers/headphones, it hangs if I try to play a sound file(sometimes). But its a weird sort of hanging, only the mouse and keyboard will stop responding, any copy paste operations keep running in the background, I can press the standby button to put the pc into standby. After resuming from standby no more hanging...

 

well now its stable again and i have no idea why....
What all I did-
1. updated bios
2. used recovery disc to put hard-disk in out-of-the-box state.
3. let default toshiba stuff run (toshiba powersave)
4.generally use the lappy ina 'regular' manner. Not too much fiddling.


I use a usb soundcard, which gets static as well but rarely.

My conclusions -
There really is a god and there are things such as spirits and demons which can get into things like notebook computers..
