Purchased a new A305 from Circuit City, and the ac adapter works as a direct power source, but the battery shows no change in charge after 3 hrs (still completely empty).
The battery is in the computer, the computer has been turned off, the AC plug is plugged in. If I turn the computer on to check, the battery icon still shows completely empty, and there is no visible charging light on the battery.
Is this a defective battery? Do I need to charge for >3 hrs initially? Defective motherboard that doesn't recognize the battery is installed? Bad BIOS that needs to be flashed (I read earlier models had this problem with completely discharged batteries were not being recognized until after a BIOS flash)? Anyone else with new 305s that have had this problem?

Usually laptop batteries have more than 0% power in them when you buy them. My SLi-4 had like 96% out of the box. Maybe your battery is defective. Did you try taking it out for a while, unplug the AC, and putting it back in and plugging the AC back in? Maybe that could possibly fix it.

Take your computer back to CC and ask for exchange or just exchange battery.

mine was nearly charged out the box.. I would return or ask for new battery.

The battery does work, it finally started registering on the LED and in the computer that it was receiving charge after 4 hours. Then it appeared to charge normally. I'm testing the life of the battery after a full charge, and it appears to be working normally now (>2hrs atm). I believe it was completely discharged, and took a while to accumulate enough charge for the battery circuit to read it as having a charge.
Brand new A305 doesn't charge battery
