Hello,![]()
My friend broke the DC jack on his laptop. Since I have successfully repaired a few notebooks with this problem by soldering a new jack to the notebook. he asked me to repair the PC. Everything was going fine until I had to remove the heat sink fan power cord from the Motherboard when I attempted to pull it out, the Connecter broke right off the Motherboard.![]()

Does anyone know if it is possible to resolder the connector to the MB, and if it is possible how to do it?
Thanks in advance

If all that came off is the plastic you don't really need it--just place the plug over the pins--there is not enough stress on the those parts in a laptop to worry about it coming loose
If the actual pins came off, you are screwed.
If the pins came free, are the holes open so you can see "through" the motherboard? You could try cutting the pug off the fan, feeding the wires through and dabbing the wires with solder--might get a connection.
I've had what happened to you happen to me on a regular motherboard so I just used a 4-pin molex to 2 pin fan header adapter instead of the system fan header, but I doubt you have any alternatives on the laptop motherboard.
Maybe a secondary fan? You could splice the wires from a secondary fan connector to the broken fan perhaps -
Thank you very much for the reply
Unfortunately, the whole plastic piece circled in the picture came off the motherboard.Pins and plastic.
The bottom of the piece that came off looks something like this, but very very small.

The black is where the connecter was soldered to the MB
The three dots must be the power to the fan and the squares (i think) are just to hold the part to the MB, obviously not very strong since I was very gentile and it still came off. -
Well, don't take my word for granted, but if the connector can't be soldered back onto the motherboard (highly unlikely), a new motherboard will be needed...
I know it sucks to have to replace a whole motherboards for a small thing as a connector...
