    Hi guys,

I've been looking for a new Toshiba laptop to replace the old, but have been shopping around. Now there is a seller on ebay who is offering me the laptop I want 33% cheaper than the price in shops. It is brand new, sealed e.t.c.

He is a business seller but not a powerseller and has about 50 positive feedbacks and just 1 negative - which is v old anyway.

He seems to have sold loads of brand new sealed laptops of various brands and no one has been dissapointed.

The seller says that they will do it for this price only if I buy it out of ebay (as then it doesn't cost him fees) but he will provide a invoice regardless. Otherwise its 10 more

I have already put the serial no ofit in toshibas website and warranty checks out and is valid till May 09 and its not registered - so it appears fine there.

I will be paying cash on collection but I am concerned that it may be stolen. Is there any way I can check??? Does this sound like a safe way to buy a laptop as the last thing I want to do is chuck my cash away! Also Im aware that some manufacterers print the MAC address on the box. Can this be used by the seller to do anything? hack in or anything?

    Thanks

I don't know how you can tell if it's stolen.

The MAC address identifies your computer's wireless adapter uniquely. When you configure a wireless network router (at your home for example), you can specify that you only want to allow this and that MAC addresses, so that other people, even if they can crack the password, cannot hack into the network.

For this reason, I doubt he can make any use of the MAC address.
