    Hi,

I need to get hold of a replacement CD ROM drive for a satellite 1800 in the next couple fo days, but I've no idea where to start. Can anyone advise on a suitable drive, and where I can get one from in pretty quick time? I don;t have the laptop here at the moment so I don't know what I'm looking for - hopefully someone here has a similar laptop that they can help with.

Many thanks for any help :)

Unfortunately, there is no way to get the device that quick. The regular eletronic stores doesnt have notebook drives. But I have a suggestion, why just go and buy an EXTERNAL CD/DVD drive? Those are should be available at the regular eletronic stores, such as BestBuy, or CC.

Thanks NetBrakr - I was originally looking at a usb DVD drive, so that I could create an image of the existing partition, and use that to reinstall from if ever it was needed.

My only concern was that all of the drives I found were usb 2 and I'm not sure that a laptop of that age would be able to cope with it?

Hmm yeah, since USB 1.1 has only top speed of 12MBPS, USB 2.0 has top speed of 480MBPS. How many GB does the partition have?
