My Toshiba1135-S155 CD needs replaced. Are ther generic brands available
instead of the Toshiba brand? I can't believe there is another no other alternative than to spend the $300.00 that I have found so far. Any ideas would be appreciated. The notebook is 18 months old. I can't see spending that much on a small part of an inexpensive notebook.
    Thanks in advance.

You can buy a replacement optical drive from a few places in the US. The one's I know of are, www.Newegg.com & www.UltraDrives.com both have what you're looking for. On UltraDrives is a bit easier to find the drive you're looking for, Newegg is a bit more difficult. You can get a DVD burner for approx $130US. Just make sure you measure out the dimensions of your old drive before buying a new one, the measurements may be off a bit for some (Panasonic). Try calling UltraDrives and tell them when system you have, they should be able to tell you if it's compatible or not. They also sell correct faceplates for the drives so it'll matchup with your unit.
