    Getting a cmos battery failure error on an older L350 psld8u-0GH016. is there any way to know the location of this battery to minimize disassembly ?

    Make sure to desolder it at the pcb side, not where the tabs are spot-soldered to the battery (that needs professional equipment to solder back properly). After that you can either use a new, tabbed CR2032 and solder it back to the pcb or, instead, a CR2032 holder using its wires and make it a replaceable option. Chances are the new cmos battery will outlast the laptop, but it's also useful to have an option to reset the bios to defaults. A lot easier than soldering, at least.
