Just wondering if anyone knows whether it's even possible to upgrade to a dual-core processor in the R205.
I'd love to get one, except for the lack of dual-core and the 60G hard drive. I can deal with upgrading the HD once I've had it for a few months, but the dual-core is what's keeping me leaning towards the Sony SZ series...
Anyone know?
THANKS!

No, even though the Pentium M and the Core Duo share the same socket, the pin configurations are different. So a Pentium M based system cannot be upgraded to a Core Duo.

ok, i appreciate the info! Do you own a R205? If so, what do you think of it? I'm leaning towards it, but would have to upgrade the hard drive... 60G wouldn't be enough after a couple months...
Also the external drive isn't enticing. But the LOOK, the weight, slimness, and biometrics/security are all pretty sweet! -
Yes, you can upgrade the HD. My friend has R200 along with 80GB HD, perhaps 100GB will fit as well.

The only thing I would say going aganist it is the increasing availability of the Core Duo's(which itself will be shortlived as it is going to be replaced by the Merom expected by the end of this year). Toshiba might put a Core Duo in the R200 series in the future(I dont have a timeline but it can be a possibility). The Pentium M is quite powerful by itself and depending on your uses it can last quite a while. I would suggest looking around for other options as well just to avoid any possible buyers remorse(if any). -

Whitney, what are you implying?
I am helping to market for Toshiba? I was merely trying to bring awareness of a new series in the Portege range with the new Core Duo/Solo since no one mentioned it in the Toshiba thread!
Well, for me, I decided to settle for an ASUS W5F since its the best fit according to my required specs and pocket.
Can a Portege R200 series be upgraded to Dual-core??
