Can't get Toshiba Satellite A75-206 to acquire IP address

My Toshiba laptop (A75-206) has a Realtek RTL 8139/810X Family Fast Ethernet NIC (LAN), Cisco Systems VPN Adapter (LAN 2), and

Atheros AR500 4G Wireless Network Adapter (Wireless Network Connection). I'm using WIN XP.

My problem is I cannot get connected to the internet through my cable ISP (Charter.net). I've gone over the problem with them

and they tell me that the problem is with my computer which makes sense to me in as much as I can connect my desktop without any

    problem.

For whatever reason, my laptop will not "acquire an IP address". I've tried rolling back the LAN driver and even reloading the

LAN and wireless drivers to no avail. One thing I don't understand is why I have two LAN's as when I reboot the Cisco Adapter

(LAN 2) is disabled. If I enable it, there is no change and on rebooting it again shows it is disabled.

I've run ConfigFree and it tells me the IP address is not set properly.

    Any help will be appreciated.

Also, in additions to posting a reply would anyone (someone??) also send a reply to me at [email protected].

    Thanks immensely.
