I inherited a Toshiba A105-AS2001 from work and bought two 1 gig sticks of PC2=4200 RAM. If I install one of them in the empty slot all is well and it shows the extra memory, when I try to take out the original 512 stick that came with the machine it won’t boot up at all. I tried just one of the new sticks and both of the new sticks and no joy. It will always boot up in with either of the 1 gig sticks and the original 512 stick. When I say won’t boot up the power button blinks and it sounds like the HD is spinning up but then quits – does it about 4 or 5 times then shuts off….please help .

Thanks for getting back to me, I appreciate it...I have tried each way:

512 in slot 1 and GB stick A in slot two - worked
512 in slot 1 and GB stick B in slot two - worked
512 in slot 2 and GB stick A in slot one - worked
512 in slot 2 and GB stick A in slot one - worked
GB stick A in slot 1 and GB stick B in slot two - no joy
GB stick B in slot 1 and GB stick A in slot two - no joy
GB stick A in slot 1 and nothing in slot 2 - no joy
GB stick A in slot 2 and nothing in slot 1 - no joy
GB stick B in slot 1 and nothing in slot 2 - no joy
GB stick B in slot 2 and nothing in slot 1 - no joy
512 in slot 1 and nothing in slot 2 -worked
512 in slot 2 and nothing in slot 1 - worked

Basically, if the 512 stick is in anywhere it works - hmmmm. VERY frustrating. I have upgraded the BIOS from 1.5 to 2.2....GRRRRRRR

I have a A100, which is pratically same as an A105, I bought 2*1GB Kingston PC2-4200, poped them in and worked.
