    Does anyone have an idea what could be the problem.

    I think you need to re-install the ACPI drivers.

    First step in diagnosing this issue is to restore the OS. If that doesnt solve the problem that eliminates the OS as the issue.

    but from what it sounds like you need to update the brightness control program on the motherboard. For this you need to contact Toshiba support. They will be able to give you the program that you need to do it (its a bootable app)
