my friend has a l300 and yesterday the laptop was plugged during use and all of a sudden windows report battery dead. I tried to plug in my own charger(same volt, slightly different amp) and the laptop charges so I figured it's the charger refused to work.

Looked at toshiba's site and located a possible replacement:
    http://www.toshiba.ca/web/product.grp?lg=en&section=1&group=2&product=4672&tab=A

then I noticed in local bestbuy they have some "universal charger"

    Do they work?

I would stay with OEM adapters and not touching 3rd party or universal ones.

    cheers ...
