I am extremely looking forward to the x205-s9349 that should be on my doorstep January 2nd.

I've been looking through the forums for a couple of hours now trying to gather up information on drivers and such.

The general consensus seems to be that a clean install of vista greatly improves performance. I've never installed an OS but I have worked with the hardware on desktops and also overclocking.

    I found this post: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=120228

I'm wondering if this is almost exactly how it will be on the x205 for the vista clean install. I want to do this as soon as I receive the notebook and any help would be appreciated. I'm new to the laptop world but I'm looking forward to the x205. Thanks

I would make sure you download all the drivers from the Toshiba website before you reinstalle everything.

Also, when you are downloading drivers and utilities - Select the Sli-3 model. For some reason they seem to have more updated drivers listed for this model then the '49 or '59.

The only Toshiba utilities you need in order to make sure all the hardware is functional is the Value Added Package/Flash Cards (you can disable this on startup if you don't want to use them) and either the Toshiba Bluetooth monitor or bluetooth drivers.

If you use the drivers they replace the Microsoft drivers and control panel with a Toshiba specific one - however there are a lot more running processes in the background. You may want to use these if you use a lot of bluetooth devices. However, I chose to use the Bluetooth Monitor. This only adds one process in the background but is the minimum required to be able to turn it off and on.

All of the other utilities are purely optional.

All of the files on Toshiba's website are self-extracting archives. To speed up installation time you can extract these yourself manually. This great increases install speed.

One last thing - Don't forget to use the ABR program mentioned in your link to back up the Activation certificate. It can save you a lot of time and headache activating windows.

Edit: Go to the intel website and download the chipset drivers and the Turbo Memory drivers - they are much more upto date. Also - go to the Realtek website and download the most recent audio drivers.

Thanks for the replies very helpful. I'll have this laptop on the 4th and I will update or if anything goes berserk, probably be back here asking questions.

So step 1. download all the recent drivers from toshiba and the ones you mentioned from the intel and realtek.

step 2. Backup these files on usb

step 3. download ABR program and follow instructions

Hopefully a smooth process. Thanks again.

Just remember to actually activate the Vista Registration by setting up the laptop to go online first. AND also to create any recovery disks if the machine does not come with any, BEFORE you wipe the harddrive(s).
