    Hi
I was wondering what the best way to clean the fans on my Sli1 was. I've had her for about 7-8 months, and i guess its due for a good cleaning. I guess ideally i'd have to open it up to access the fans, but will doing so void my warranty? Is there an easy way to go about this, or should i just go through Toshiba and have them clean the fans (I have the on site warranty)? Thanks for the help.

I used a vacuum on my L25. Worked like a charm. Much easier than opening the whole thing up.

What a coincidence. I was just thinking the same thing. I had my sli1 since December and was thinking about opening it up to clean it but was scared to do it since I don't have any experience. So I was thinking about buying the air canister and just blowing the dust build up, but don't know if it's such a good idea since I might blow the dust into the internals. Any guidance or tips would help. I don't have a vacuum.

I had a thread on this recently when my GPU temps were hitting 105degC. I ended up vacuuming, but couldn't get it all out.

So what worked for me was inserting small screwdriver into the fan, to lock it down, THEN use my air compressor to blow the track out. I had been vaccuming regularly, but the air compressor sent out unbelievable chunks of dust and debris. Again, make sure you lock down the fans so they don't overspeed and damage the electric motors.

y2khardtop, are you using your comp air can on the fan (on the bottom), or on the grill (on the sides)? Also will that blow crap further into the laptop?

I started from the side first, to blow dirt back the way it came. Once that cleared up, I shot air at all different angles.

I'm not taking my machine apart, and the temps were soooooo hot I felt I had no choice but to try. Lowered my temps nearly 30deg, and I guess I'll just have to send it in for a warranty cleaning if it packs it in deeper over time (that's another good reason for extended warranty).

I must say this is a big disadvantage to gaming laptops......even in a really clean environment they get crammed full of debris in just a few months.

Is cleaning covered under the extended warranty, b/c I have the 3 yr on site repair and accidental damage. That would actually be amazing.

Hey - Just wanted to post that I took my X205 to a local toshiba repair shop andthey cleaned it out and replaced two fans under warrenty. I'll probably take it back to them just before the warrenty runs out.
