I have a Satellite P105-S6114 with a Core 2 [email protected] and 2 gig RAM running XP and I would like to clone and install an OCZ sata Ii 2.5 SSD.

I have the 2.5" adapter and the mini usb to dual usb cable and the instruction sheet for the install but there is no mention of cloning.

Can someone please direct me by providing a link?

    Thank you all. :)

if you talk to OCZ as well, they don't recommend a clone, fresh install is the best way to allocated new data to an SSD to prolong its life and ensure TRIM works correctly..........although your on XP so trim wont work!lol!

    Thank you 1994.

SSD is useless on XP without TRIM. TRIM is the feature I require.

    QUESTION:

Will TRIM work if I run it manually, that is what I was told.

to be honest i haven't investiagted, but the point of trim is that it runs constantly in the background from what i understand more like an encryption program than a one shot like a defrag.

however, i think bundled trim like software that some drives come with can be run on demand to work in a similar fashion but i don't think they are quite as effiecient and can lead to more wear on the NAND flash cells.

Doug from My Digital Discount sent me the OCZ 120gig Solid 2 Series and he said it has garbage collection, not trim, but it is essentially the same.

I installed the SSD and I am doing a fresh install, since this a backup.

    Thanks again.

ai thats the OCZ equivalent of TRIM, as said it will work in a similar way but as its not actually built into the O/S it won't be quite as efficient as true TRIM in a supported o/s environment.

having said that, doubt you'll even notice and the drive will last ages anyway for the price of them :) so it be reet!

enjoy the speed, best upgrade i ever did to my computer :)
